DC21 (Canada) Stripdown?
« on: October 06, 2015, 07:21:13 pm »
I need to strip down a DC21.  (I suspect a wiring issue for the electrical supply to the power head.)

One machine screw is accessible next to the cord-rewind button, and a second is under the top filter.

There must be more screws holding the cowling in place. It seems likely that they are under the two large wheels, but I cannot figure out how to get the wheels off.

There is no screw in the centre of the wheels, nor is there a "hub cap" that pops off to reveal the screw.

Each wheel appears to be made as a single molding, although I cannot be certain of this.

The wheels may simply press on over a slight bump on the axel, in which case you just have to pull them off.

BUT . . . I don't want to break anything by forcing something not designed to be forced.

Have any of you taken this type of wheel off??  Suggestions?

Thanks.   Myron

Do you have the first three digits of the serial number please so I can cross check it with our models?

My basic problem is that the power nozzle worked perfectly for some years and then the next day it simply did not work at all.

A friend's same-model power nozzle did not work on my machine, either.

The Canadian distributor sent me a new hose, but that did not help. (I have not had a chance to try it with my friend's nozzle.)

There are three electrical connections in a straight-line plug.   If I call them 1, 2, and 3, I measure the following voltages:

1 & 3 = 0 volts
1 & 2 = 38-42 volts
2 & 3 = 58-63 volts

So for the gurus here, this is a motorhead machine in the DC08/DC19 family. So how to remove DC08/19 wheels is the first question.

Looking at beko's DC08 write up, the wheels pop off with the aid of a large screwdriver.

Yes, a long screw driver shoved in then prised off, it shouldn't break but makes is scary as it does sound like it. There are 2 screws behind each wheel IIRC from my DC08, one behind the pre motor filter aswell
