Dyson DC41- ugh!
« on: October 12, 2015, 05:25:34 pm »
Well, I'm quite p!ssed at this DC41, had it only 3 months and it needed a new cleaner head, needs one AGAIN. Had a new cyclone, hose and prefilter. Today was just using it normally, we use a vacuum normally but do sometimes bash the common vacuums into furniture by accidentor when vacuuming in a rush. Today I reclined my DC41 when I was done using it and it felt more flexible than ever, I thought wtf?
Looked around the base and noticed a freaking bloody crack! I'm going to complain to Dyson as this vacuum has needed quite a lot of attention within the past 3 months, not very good as it's a £409 vacuum aswell! Glad I didn't buy it new.  It's under guarantee till like 2017.

IDK if they will send me a box to send it to them to repair, but I took the serial number off the top of the chassis and put it behind the bin on the tube of the chassis so its more convenient and I had to glue the damned ball hose as the flimsy plastic snapped off to screw it in. Horrible design! Shame as it was really powerful but I am really cheesed off at the moment, fearing it will break even more in the future due to this crack.

Dyson better repair this thing for free cos it ain't my fault.

I agree, thanks I hope they will do something helpful. This thing is just horrible though, it's a DC41 to still worth like £120 or something and they only came out a few years ago, they break already. Meanwhile there's like thousands of fragile DC01's still being used today

Don't blame you mate, it's bloody disgusting. My missus uses our hoover every day & being a woman in a rush, often bangs into furniture. No cracks or splits in it after 7 years use.

I agree! I thought Dyson bash around their latest Dysons and drop them? Mine hasn't been dropped, but yeah, I'm starting to question that now. I got the vacuum used off eBay 3 months ago, so IDK what's going to happen. My mum uses it often and probably bashes into furniture, I don't be at home sometimes so she has to vacuum when it needs doing.

PS here's the email I intend to send them:

Hi Dyson,

I am writing to inform you about my Dyson DC41 Animal (serial number: DA7-UK-DBA3346A) which has been damaged. I was vacuuming today and went to recline the vacuum when I was finished using it. I noticed that it was more flexible than usual. I inspected the base of the vacuum and noticed a crack. It is a crack, not molding as when I push the vacuum slightly it's clearly a crack. I have not been misusing it and the vacuum had not been dropped in my ownership.

I have only had this vacuum for 3 months, second hand off eBay and it has had a new hose, new cyclone and a new cleaner head. I wanted to like the DC41. I do, but it's not very well built in my honest opinion. my DC14 feels much more durable. I know the cleaner head is about a month old, but the rubber on the wheel has already disintegrated! This vacuum has let me down but I wanted to stay positive. Shame really because I have other earlier Dysons and they are fantastic machines. In the 3 months of my ownership it's required this many parts and it's still falling apart. I fear that this crack will get worse and eventually the vacuum chassis may snap in half. I am very disappointed with the DC41.

Also, the hose in the ball has a red flimsy plastic end with a screw hole. That had snapped off. I don't know how it broke but I think it's because of the limited/narrow space in the ball. I had no choice but to glue it.

Cannot fault the performance though, it works really well and I like the design, but it doesn't seem like it's built to last.  Please see the attached picture of the damage.

Kind regards,

Tayyab Parwaz.

At the end of the day buddy, knocking into furniture happens to everyone when they're vacuuming.

I'd probably be inclined to leave out the bit about buying it on eBay to be honest.

This doesn't surprise me as it's a early DC41 for 2012 which had lots of faults and problems.

Cheers Tech12, could you elaborate on the eBay bit please, I think it would be alright as I looked after the vacuum in my ownership, but the previous owner might have misused it?

Heidi: I have the early DC41, was bought in February 2012, so was made a few months earlier which is exactly when they came out, so I agree!

Now you know why we don't sell them refurbed online, Parwaz. Warranty nightmare, along with the DC40 and DC50.

We have actually done a couple of each for the opening of the new shop just for floor stock, but will only sell them locally so we can keep on top of them falling to bits during the guarantee period.  :'(

When you think that if you bashed the furniture with a 50s, 60s, or 70s Hoover junior it would be the furniture that came off worse, where is the progress?
