One can always buy an extension pole to make it more versatile.

I remember DC16's being sold for £99, still pricey imho seeing as there's only suction and no motorised tool which can be found on a cheaper Vax or Hoover handheld

That's the bog standard one though so doesn't have the connections for the motorhead.
