watch what you are sucking up !
« on: October 27, 2015, 08:40:45 pm »
This is a photo of an actual Dyson DC 39 that i stripped down. The lady owner stated loss of suction. After checking the usual things like filter, blocked hose and blockage in the head.
I separated the two halves of the DC 39 and this is what i found.

My main concern is how the item was allowed to pass through into the motor, there is nothing in the line to stop this happening. Surely a huge error on Mr Dysons part ?

Now to tell the lady what i found, without being too embarrassed for her.

I believe a kid has been playing with that and placed that cloth item in the tube going to the motor so it got sucked in

I reckon so.  I had a dc24 that had loads of card in the fan.  Sold the bloke in a new motor (cos it made an orrible noise) and he said he would tell the kids off... I cleaned up his old motor and put it in the good spare shelf in the shed...

Had dc25s with the fan full of cotton wool before too.

Dont forget,  people are idiots...

Haha, there was a woman who had  a Henry vacuum and it wasn't sucking so took it to a shop to get repaired. She collected the vacuum after it had been fixed and the repairman told her there was knickers stuck in the pipe and gave it to her, she was confused as they weren't hers. Turns out her husband cheated on her! True story and it had been on the news XD

I recall a g-string coming out of one machine ages ago. We gave it back to her when she came for the machine.  ;D

A dc25 that came in to the shop I used to work for somehow had a half inch wide, little over an inch long bolt stuck in the fan. It absolutely wrecked the motor, I suspect kids were to blame!

I bet it was an early model with a grey cable, the later models had a cage rubber hing like the DC04 zorbser and DC15 did

That's just it, it had one of those rubber things! Someone must have really forced the bolt down in there!

The dc15 has a hard plastic grate, and you also cannot close the filter lid without a filter in place. Strange as the dc14 did not have either.

The 14 has the moulding inside the lid for the clip though. Wonder if early 14s had it, before the 15 came out and they just tooled the one part for both.

You can close the lid of a 15 with no filter in though,  you just need a screwdriver to push the clip back before you close the lid

I thought it might have been to protect the pcb and wiring as they are in the duct tube. And I guess the 14 has its motor grate down below at the inlet like the 07.
