Thanks but I think I already have another full machine on the way. It should be here in two weeks.

Thanks but I think I already have another full machine on the way. It should be here in two weeks.

The third Fantom arrived yesterday from the US of A, brought back by a chap on the plane. All complete, unbroken and with all the bits we need on there. So we now have three of these from which we will make two minters.

So today we started stripping the first one down..........

Down to the motor........

And a few bits TFR'd and pressure washed to make a start.......

Observations up to now: Original build quality is alright but not fabulous. Tech is pretty basic and typical of the era (like a blend of 80's vintage Hoover/Electrolux and a Rotork/DC01). More fiddly to take apart than a similar era Dyson. Some Dyson/Rotork influences in there, but not terribly obvious unless pointed out and/or you know the history. Wooden brushroll. Small motor like a DC03.

The black plastic has some deep scratches in, and being black, is quite challenging to buff out or disguise as black shows every mark (like cars). These are going to need a good wax polish.

Anyone know what onboard tools they had? We have no tools.......

More news as it happens...........

Very nice! Looks like a nicely built machine. I may be wrong, but that looks like a twin fan motor to me?
The Fantom Cyclone XT had a brushbar motor which I thought other Fantoms had, I guess I'm wrong lol

It does look that way, yes.

As we are not rushed this week, the first one is going back together..........

Looks very clean! That black plastic should machine polish very nicely, then maybe a layer of filler heavy car polish, then a few coats of nice wax to deepen the gloss. May even knock the deep scratches down enough so you cant see them!

The parts have been sanded where necessary and buffed with G3, and then simply siliconed. From what I saw, it looked well already.

So the bulbs that light them up at the front in use are twin contact 14v 6w bulbs -

- and nobody here has them. They are not the same as the similar looking 12v automotive ones we have.

So we just ordered two from the US. And we wait......

Bulbs arrived, and our Iona Fantom Furys are finished.  8)

One will be going to the new owner (who paid for them) next week, one will be going in the museum section of our new shop.

The remaining parts from the extra machine we got that we didn't use will be built back up as a non-perfect project machine for someone, and will go on eBay.

I wouldn't mind some tools for them if anyone can shed any light on those?

They look fantastic, practically new!
These machines had a VHS tape that went along with them, when I was very young I got a hold of one and watched it to death. I was somewhat obsessed with these at that age.
Sorry I couldn't be more help with them.
