We have 2x American Fantom Fury Machines to Restore
« on: November 13, 2015, 06:52:10 pm »
So today arrived two Fantom vacuum cleaners imported from the US by a chap. From Google pics, they appear to be Thunder models. Both seem to have had a hard life.

The deal is we refurb both and keep one.

On other vac-related sites there seems to be a lot of discussion about these machines.

Can someone clue me in why they are so well-regarded? Or why they are collectible? (The one we refurb will be going to a vac museum). Or even production years or any other info?

What age are they?

I have been hearing about Fantoms forever, I never saw one. Now I have, I am wondering what the fuss is about. What am I missing?

Omg nice one!
I know that Fantom was from the 90's and James Dyson sold the patents to Fantom to legally produce these vacuums. They got bankrupt by Iona I think? They got bankrupt in around 2001 and production of Fantom vacuums ended there so these vacuums are now rare as they  are old now, like DC01's and according to Americans these are pretty good vacuums. I never seen one cos they are American, but I love the Fantom Thunder, Fury and Lightning because those look the most similar to the DC01 and DC02 ;D

That is the only Fantom I have ever heard of that's in the UK and I'm sure it would make an excellent displac vacuum in your new shop! 8) :icon_nod:

PS You might want to check out Fantomvacuumfan on YouTube, he is a great admirer for Fantoms and had pretty good videos on them;

His first video is of a Dyson DC14 vs the Fantom and the Fantom picked up extra dirt

Brilliant! Thanks, Madrat.

I'll document and photograph the Fantom rebuilds. One will be in our new shop in a cabinet - with that story printed out - alongside the Rotork.   :-*

I wish we had the power nozzle DC02 here! So what you have is a DC01 in a pretty frock? You know you now need to make a thread detailing all the little differences between the 2!

Darn! I saw this tread earlier when it was new and was going to spill out everything I knew, but that article above is basically where I learned it all! The thunder was actually very different than the dc01, no pre motor filtration for example and larger. I can also say that internally the dc02 and fantom lightening are nothing alike, with the dc02 having a far superior filtration system.
Nice find though! I have two like it, but earlier versions with 10 amp motors.

It will be in the reception of a well-known after-market parts manufacturer.  :-X

When they are done, I will get some.

Turns out my Fantoms are not Thunders, I changed the title accordingly.

So here they are............

One needs a front trim, and a filter cover that are missing. Otherwise, they are complete.

If anyone out there happens to have any Fantom Fury machines in bits, we need these two parts.

Get in touch >here<< if you have either of those parts.

I may have a spare filter cover, but it will be about a week and a half until I can check.
