Changing HEPA filter on dc39
« on: November 23, 2015, 01:14:38 pm »
Hi,

I have stripped down a DC39, but am unable to remove the HEPA filter. There are no screws left to remove as far as a I can see and on the only thing possibly holding it in are two white clips poking through the grey circular housing. These however are very tight and do not appear to move.

Is there a "trick" to loosing and removing them or the HEPA filter?

thanks,

Paul

All done. Just to clarify the points from the other article:

1. remove the external tool holder - Just remove the screw will do
2. press the button to pop the top. Squeeze sides and lift up further.
3. remove two screws pointing down
4. depress the two white clips in the sides - i needed to lever with a screwdriver they were so tight.
5. hepa filter and other innards should then just pop off.

6. unclip wires and remove, including the gromet
7. twist to remove the hepa filter.

Hello -  using the "top down" instructions, the new HEPA filter is now in place, but having no success in getting the two white tabs which protrude through the grey outer cover, to go back in.

I've tried re-assembling the three screws that secure the grey cover to the white internal piece, (which includes  the cord re-wind mechanism) but tightening up these screws actually bound up the cord re-wind and did not help get the two white plastic tabs through the cover.  Not seeing any way to pry the cover to get the white tabs to pop through - any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong here?

Ooooh, I did this last night. One side of the tabs popped in with a sharp fist from the top, the other I had to lever the outer housing out a tad and flick the inner white bit up.

I'd best get the refurb thread written if there's so much dc39 interest!

Here is an idea on re-attaching the top cover that worked for me.  I found something laying around the garage (a wheel bearing nut) that had an OD the matched (sort-of) the OD of the white tube that goes into and locks the HEPA filer assembly together.   Placing that on top of a piece of wood, when you press down on the cover it very simply clicks into place!

Hi, Just managed to replace the motor on my DC 39, however I had purchased a replacement Hepa filter with the idea of replacing that at the same time as the motor.

I've read the notes above (and read the thread where a similar dyson is stripped down but I couldn't managed to remove the filter at all.  i got as far as point 5 in String's thread above and couldn't get it to 'pop off'.  I had managed to get the tricky white clips out (and now they are back in) but no joy with the filter...

Any suggestions for when I next have the time to take it apart?  Thanks!
