Author Topic: DC05 intermittent (Read 4854 times)

10 months ago I successfully replaced the motor in my Dyson DC05. I treated it to new filters at the same time. Since then it has worked perfectly ... until recently. A few weeks ago my wife went to use it and it didn't come on. I tried it a short time later and it worked. Last week the same thing happened, only this time it wouldn't work for me either. I have just looked up the step-by-step guide to replacing the motor and got down to start taking it to bits. Just before pulling it apart I thought I'd just try it once more. It worked! Now, of course, I'm leaving it ... until the next time it fails.

Does anyone have any ideas what is going on - and what I can do about it?

brake in power lead?

I suspect it might be the cable that's the problem - intermittent problems as you describe are a good indicator.

Thanks Madrat and Russ, yes, it could be the cable. I'll have to try manipulating the cable while powered up and see what happens ...

Wiggle the plug end and see what happens, Ive known them go in the few inches from the plug. Chop it off 4-5 inches from the plug and wire a new one on

It'll almost certainly be at one end or the other-start with the plug end as above, since that's the easiest.
If you have a multimeter, check for continuity.

Beko, Macman et al, you were right. It was the lead at the point where it enters the plug. Original Dyson plug chopped off (boo hoo) and replacement 13A plug put on: my DC05 is up and running again - hooray! And I've lost only a couple of inches of cable.

I only remember as I picked a dead dc05 up from freecycle years ago and thats the firsy thing I did and it worked! Was then my mums upstairs vac for 6 years!
