The original Dyson DC41 (1300W) has 160 AW of suction at the cleaner head.
The DC41 MK2 (700W) has 120 AW but still cleans better.

I want to swap the motors (1300w Motor in the 700w Dyson and the 700W in the 1300w old DC41. Can I do this? I want an extremely powerful vacuum, don't care if it's hard to push lol.

I am worried though that it might not work? I want a more powerful motor in the 700w model Mk2 but I don't know if this will affect the electricals. I asked dyson if I can put a Mk2 cleaner head on my DC41 original and they said it's not suitable so I am puzzled.

As much as I would like to say it should work as long as the motors are the same external size, if there's PCB's involved then who knows! Would not surprise me if the PCB's were specific to the motor or some such rubbish.

Is the fact it cleans better due to a different head design?

If I do get one I might try if the warranty runs out.

Ian: The cleanerhead has a brushbar with VERY stiff bristles and it beats the carpet very well like an old hoover with beaters on the brushroll. There is also a red slider thing and it has a "MAX" setting and it's really powerful with this, people use it on the minimum setting though due to being too powerful.

The motor is 700w so less heat :) The 1300W motor is crap, gets really hot after 15-20 mins of use with clean filters

In my bedroom I have a wall to wall carpet, like 1 inch thick plush pile, very difficult to vacuum because it's so thickly dense. The DC41 of mine can lift that carpet because it has good suction, but the brushbar has crappy soft bristles. The Mk2 is fantastic, but has 120 AW instead of mine with 160 AW atr the head, so the brushbar on the Mk2 is MUCH better but the suction is slightly less which I find might be crap on my carpet. I planj to put a 1300w one in for this specific reason so I can have like the world's most powerful Dyson

I found out the Cinetic big ball has less suction so screw it

But as you have pointed out suction is not the whole picture.

If the newer motor has less AW, could it have the effect that the more powerful motor pulls the cleanerhead down more onto the carpet, which will/may burn out the brushroll motor due to it having to work harder?

Would the added strain of the more powerful motor make it harder to push, which could break the crap plastics?

I think you should do it, it sounds like a fun project, but maybe get a ropey/burnt out example to try it on, so if it does all go wrong, you haven't lost much...

I'd certainly sell yours now it's working fine before it breaks again...

Sam: Good thinking, I never thought of the less suction affecting the brush motor less idea. I don't think the plastic will break because it's pretty flexible, unless I turn the ball and it's so powerful I could wear the wand handle out...
I am selling it on Facebook for £150 :) Im keeping the lovely cable though! It's so long, it's the only vacuum we ever had that doesn't need unplugging when vacuuming the whole of the downstairs.

I am a bit worried about selling it though, because I don't know if I want to sell it with the warranty (if they ever inquire Dyson and Dyson bring up the broken chassis I *could* be screwed or just keep the warranty so Dyson wont tell them and act like I never seen the broken chassis before

The dc41mk2 and the kinetic Big Baal are very similar in suction but the big ball is slightly more powerful at 215aw compared to the 197aw for the dc41mk2,and you couldn't inport the new American one the dyson ball animal which has 270aw compared to the 245aw for the dyson bull multi floor

But I asked Dyson and they said the DC41 Mk2 has more suction at the hose then the Cinetic in AW? They both have 120 AW at the head though I believe. I find that DC04 suction (230AW) is alright though or it's probably because I am used to using a DC14

I will probably have to have a look at that but I'm sure the kinetic has more, it used to say it on the website before they change it, if you look at the mobile website it shows you the where was measured at the hose
