DC 25 roller only turns on momentarily
« on: January 07, 2016, 11:28:30 pm »
The brushbar spins for less than a second after power is turned on and stops.  I metered the micro-switches and they are good.
I was measuring 240AC at the pins but nothing at the motor (looking for DC) so I just replaced the AC/DC converter PCB but I'm still getting the same issue.
Advice?

This is an Aussie machine, yes? So voltages and readings are the same as ours.

Have you got DC power coming out of the PCB?

Have you got AC power going into it?

I just checked it out again.  I have 240 VAC steady going in.  When I measure for DC at the terminals on the motor, I get an initial 285-ish briefly and just ramps down to zero.
Then I pulled the wires out of motor and I'm getting a steady 325VDC.  I guess I ordered the wrong part.   ;)

Looks like you need a motor.

If you cant source one locally, we'll be happy to send you one to Oz if you can wait a week or two for the mail.

Installed new motor and I'm getting the exact same issue.  brushbar spins for a second after powering on.  Still getting constant 240VAC to assembly, constant 325VDC to the black/white leads into the motor.  pulled the belt to see what it would do with no load on the motor--it spun initially and then stopped.  I find it odd that two identical motors would behave this way.  Any suggestions?

Is the motor stuttering in use? Could be the loom flexing?

I've probed both microswitches and they are fine--I don't think I'd measure continuous 240VAC to the roller assembly if they were acting up.

I can't tell if the motor stutters.  It only turns on very briefly when the vacuum is powered on.  I've tried it with the vacuum leaning all the back and nearly upright, there is no difference.

We need that roller turning because we have 2 border collies and a lot of rugs in the house.  I'm tempted to suck it up and buy a new one if I can't get this one going soon.  Tempted to go cordless, maybe the Dyson V6... I've also seen the  DC 50 at around the same price

The 2 cleaners you have mentioned could not be worse for 2 dogs! Either get a dc14 and never need another Dyson again,  or get the dc75 with proper brush roll (but still the motor,  pcb and loom setup

Faulty reset switch??

That would be my next thing to change as well. Doesn't matter how they test, they can flake out under load.

What tends to go is the motor, loom to head, PCB or reset switch. Seldom will you find a machine where something else causes this.

We had one come in the other day stuttering like that, I quoted for a loom. We changed that and it didn't fix it. We had to swallow a reset switch and then it was right.

Also, don't buy a Dyson cordless or a DC50 for animals. If you are going to buy a new machine (which you don't need to) for animals, I'd probably go with a Sebo.
