DC31 - another new toy
« on: January 31, 2016, 10:57:47 pm »
Well I was looking for something for cleaning the car occasionally...and ended up buying this DC31 for €40 (c. £30).

It works fine as far as I can see. Haven't timed the battery life yet. It came with both tools, charger and box and instructions. Apparently it's c. 4 years old and the owner had upgraded to a new one with a long tube as they had be given a gift voucher for Christmas. It's main duty apparently was cleaning around the fireplace.

The only thing I can see at the moment (resisted taking it apart so far) is that the O-ring seal at the top of the bin looks a bit perished.

I think I might add an tool adaptor piece to the shopping list to make it a poor man's DC35 for the odd job to save me bending over.

With the tool adapter, your DC02 tube and floor tool will work.

Lovely! When I get my first car I'm going to invest in a Dyson Animal handheld (probably DC31 /34 Animal)

Was vacuuming my dad's car with the DC07 yesterday and It struggles on the car mats because they have a texture so I need a stubborn dirt brush. Will get that when I get a nice new DCwhatever

My only concern about the tool adaptor / DC02 wand is having something weighty on the end of the bin nozzle, but if I take care and avoid waving it around like a sword, I'm sure it'll cope.  ;D

So far, I haven't tested the running time of the battery to flat, but it seems to cope well enough with my spot cleaning round the place. I'm generally just quickly chasing the dust bunnies in the hall daily.

I've tried the tool adaptor with the DC02 wand / DCO2 mk2 floor tool, and I still have reservations about the weight, but it seems to work well enough. The DC31 is supposedly 38AW/65AW (10 min/6 min) and on full tilt managed to pick up some heavier pieces (broken bits of crayon) up the wand okay.

The only other issue is that the tool adaptor is a bit slack in the top of the DC02 wand allowing it to wiggle a bit. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for a generic 32mm aluminium tube and if it isn't snug, I might just glue the adaptor into one of those. Even if it means I have to buy another adaptor for the convenience of robbing other tools from other vacuums in the house!

I am wondering if it'll power a small turbo brush though.... :whist11:

It will, but not very well.

I tried my DC01 on the tangle free head today, span quite well even with it loosely fitted

It will. A DC01 has a big old motor in there. A DC31 has a wee digital jobbie. Apples and oranges.

Lol
I figured it might work, as it has 90 AW and the DC31 has 65 AW I think, so the suction is almost similar

I would get a DC34 Animal or DC44 or DC35 though as you can use the mini motorised head
