So my phone arrived, looking a bit grotty and nicotine stained in that way that only cream coloured things can.

Split the handset and the buffer brought it up well. Cables and grommets have cleaned up well too.

However, this leaves the buttons and the aluminium dial surround.

What to clean the buttons with? If I use anything abrasive or thinning, it might take off the numbers. And how to remove that aluminium disc to spam it up?

Baby wipes for the buttons? Does Claire or Olga have aby sensitive makeup removing pads?

Does the telecom logo bit come off to reveal a screw? Then metal polish!

Yes, that takes off the full dial unit. But I didn't want springs everywhere.  :snivel:

Probably. I'll ask.

Yes, we thought that. But I didn't want to be arsing about with it and risk damaging it unless someone knew.

It might be a sealed unit, personally I would just use baby wipes and some polish.

 of course it dose honestly my brain,  that means it wont work on all phone exchanges, old BT ones should be ok.  you also wont be able to use automated systems unless you convert it to tone dial with a tone generator.

Should be ok to use on a BT line through any exchange. TalkTalk used BT lines and equipment but have now installed their own equipment in BT exchanges so LD phones may or may not work with them now. Same thing with the other suppliers, will not work unless you have a Rotatone fitted. LD phones will ring in and you can still answer calls, you just can't dial out.

That's it. I haven't used one but am reliably informed they work well with no problems.
