DC 01 finally gone
« on: March 18, 2016, 12:10:02 am »
My DC 01 purchased c1996 has finally gave up the ghost in a cloud of blue smoke and with a nasty growling noise. Manchester Vacs supplied a second hand wand and hose in 2012 and apart from an off/on switch, belts and filters that is all it needed in 20 years of hard use. I took my machine back to Manchester Vacs. Clare kindly offered to see if they could find a second hand motor but after further wise counselling by Clare it was decided that I should consign old faithful to the "breakers yard" and step up to a reconditioned DC 04.  This looks and works like new and I would once again heartily recommend  Manchester Vacs for advice, repair and replacement of Dysons.

It's great that you took the time to write here your experience in dealing with us over four years. It's really nice when someone makes the effort to do that.  :-*

I'm also glad that Claire advised you well and got you fixed up with a great new machine. We have a few green/grey DC04s on the shop floor at the moment, and I am guessing it is one of those you had. They are a good, reliable and strong machine, and a great step up from a DC01 without spending too much money.

You will love the DC04! It's better than the Dc01 in pretty much every single way I can think of, the main thing being it's performane

RIP DC01, but an 04 is a lovely upgrade from a DC01!

Here's to another 20 years of happy vacuuming! I reckon to see it 20 years, you'll probably need a new motor, brushroll, 20x pre motor filters, maybe a post filter or two when it becomes unwashable, possibly a hose and baseplate maybe?

That's what? £100 tops over 20 years? You show me a modern Dyson that would have those sorts of low running costs!

£5 a year! If that

Many thanks everyone for opinions and information! The DC04 is excellent and is pulling up the carpets like the old DC01 used to do! The only thing I miss is the total simplicity of the earlier machine.

You'll get used to it :) Trust me

The DC04 is more reliable then the DC01 physically because DC01's suffered from broken soleplates and filters that fall apart when washing, DC04 filters can be throw into the washing machine and the soleplate is much better :) It seals in the suction and lifts the carpet up, so it pulls more dirt out than the DC01
