I booked a day off work today, to help Amy go cleaning! Her utterly lazy but lovely friend is away this weekend, and her husband is sick of the mess, so asked Amy if she could help.
So, early this morning, I assembled the troops
Made Eva some flower and star toast
and we loaded the car (had to take both as the cleaners wouldnt fit in the meriva with both car seats) and went over there. Amy made a start on the 2nd bathroom, and me and Eva tackled the front room
They have 3 cats and a dog, so there was plenty of massive hairballs
It took me 45 minutes to do along this wall, and clean all the toys, and vacuum the walls and ceiling
Then I had to do the other side. Eva did a wee right on cue...
Moved the sofa and found more hair
This was every 5 minutes
I lifted a sofa cushion and wished I hadn't
Amy wanted the Miele at this point for the bathroom, so I got their DC75 out to have a use, and started grumbling at the crevice tool being too stubby. "Oh, she got a bag of tools with that, hang on", and Amy comes back with the fupping hi/lo toolkit in the canvas bag!
Tangle Free turbine swiftly fitted
which underwhelmed me to be honest. Until I noticed something
She's had it 6 months and never used the tools. Both the soft big dusting brushes were flat too
That peeled off, it did work slightly better. But, the dc75 hose is very stiff, and it didnt expand at all so the machine kept tipping over. Plus, the crevice tool is too stubby.
Enter, the Icon!
with it's brilliant thin, long crevice tool
I then discovered, that Panasonic hose cuffs/tools are the perfect size for Dyson click ones!
The icon spun it faster than the DC75! I used the Icon to finish the job
Sofa finished, I vacuumed under the rest of the furniture, pulled the tv unit out, stripped it back, cleaned it all up and put it back, vacuumed the floor again and moved onto the main hallway
Whole lot stripped out, ceiling walls and stuff hanging on the walls vacuumed, then the beams, then the Ensign to the entrance mat, which it was ace at
Hall done, I helped amy with the kitchen, and stripped the floor back of rubbish
I then took no further pictures! Took me half an hour to pick stuff up off the floor, empty the bins, vacuum it. Had to change the bag on the miele halfway through. Amy then mopped it over. I think her friends husband bought her a Vax Floormate on my recommendation when we were there...
We properly ran out of time, so we didn;t quite get to the main bedroom, so I spent 15 minutes quickly tidying up, and needed to clean the carpet.
First up, the Johnstone Diversey Ensign SM 2
This crapped the brushroll up nicely
Next up, was the Panasonic Icon
I did a little table to summarise
Icon SM2
First Pass pickup Nil 1
Grooming Appearance 1 Nil
Either way, neither was too shabby.
I did bring the accu nova with me, but tbh that was very out of it's depth. I'll show you the state of it tomorrow, it clogged up FAST!
Anyhoo, we finished off after doing 3 rooms of 7, and went home. We planned to go back anyway as Kevin said he would buy us dinner. Kebab eaten, I popped into the bedroom to see what i could do in an hour... I used the DC75 for this, with the Miele for above floor cleaning.
So, I moved some furniture, dusted behind it all and set up the DC75
I wasn't all that impressed, until the release valve opened
It's hard to see in this pic, but the suction inlet is not even a cm deep, it clogged with a bit of paper, a bit of crayon and a shit load of dog hair. The channel that runs down the back seemed to fill up with crap alot too.
Either way, cleaned out, try again
WOW! Much better! In Max mode though, it pushes bigger stuff out the way, and it's a right bastard to get it back to Max when you take it off.
Either way, it did a bloody good job of cleaning the room
However, the real winnah of today has been the Miele TriScopic tube and the parquet twist head, primarily for the tall walls of their barn conversion
and the beams (second bathroom this)
Out into the bedroom we were just in
Carpets looked much better
Front room
All in all, a very good day, nice to use my vacuums for a change, as in PROPERLY use them! Will get a sit rep on the machines tomorrow, their still in the car and can stay there tonight! We need to go back, one of the bedrooms I did not feature has REALLY deep pile carpet, I ran the icon round quickly and it was lurverly!
