Another one saved - DC01 Absolute
« on: February 21, 2016, 04:25:56 pm »
First thread so go easy  :underchair:

Won't do a complete tear down on this, will leave that to the resident pros!

I have (like I'd imagine most of us here do) an odd penchant for repairing things and at the moment Dysons are the flavour of the month, which is good as they are dirt cheap!

Have rebuilt a lot of DC07's but have not had a DC01 before so set out to get one local, managed to get a  "Absolute" bargain (see what I did there?) for £3.20. Sweet!

Don't think the eBay seller was so hot on me winning the Dyson for so cheap, told me to collect it off the drive and not bother coming to the house  :snivel:

These older machines will never be worth much but I find them worth the cost and bit of work just for the satisfaction of fixing them again.

Anyway here is how she was in the listing

Not a looker and sadly will never be showroom again but hey ho.

Now at some stage before this DC01 was put away some clever soul thought it would be a great idea to vacuum their garden. No joke the thing was solid with soil and some weird flusff/stuffing  :sick0012:

So I started working my way through it and it was quite interesting to see how convoluted the suction path is in the head without the simple flex tube that the DC07 has, lots of places for muck to build up.

The one thing I did notice however was that the motor housing was really clean and the Ametek motor was in great nick, the armature looked great. Guess the prefilter in these does its job better than I'd expect.

So fast forward lots of scrubbing and getting  :boggleeye: looks from the Mrs messing with a 20 year old hoover on my day off..

Ta da!

With a DC03 I paid over the odds for which too will never be showroom but works as good as new :)

Already on with the next wreck  ;D

Excellent work there. It never ceases to amaze me how some folk let there vacuum cleaners get in such a state.

Yes will never be that lovely silver/grey again but all my hoovers get used once restored so not too fussed.

The DC02 has been used to clean up plaster which is bad enough in any hoover but the DC02 doesn't seem to have a "Pre" filter other than the foam surround. Hence the motor is stone dead and stinks.

Has a complete wand, perfect hose and floor head though so will keep a eye out for a cheap genuine motor on Ebay for it, will make a good car hoover :D

Nice job. Those two look good together. I shall look forward to seeing your 02 alongside your 01 and 03.

Lol yes! I think all oldie vacuums look out of date from the 19th century, even the DC01 I grew up with looks old :| A Dc07 onwards looks fairly modern I think (Post 2003 models)

The DC04 looks *kind of* modern IMHO, I know a few people with them, most people in my area have DC14 models onwards now

Yup.

Meh was easier for me really, these things go so cheap that I feel awful handing next to noute over for them.

Mrs has already condemned the DC01 and DC03 as they are too "old" looking  :(
