Hoover Junior U1012 - Stripdown and Refurb
« on: April 02, 2016, 05:49:14 pm »
I bought this for 99p a few weeks ago!

The cord hook repairs are simply fantastic

The bag has a slight tear sadly

January 1977

Looked clean from the drivers seat

Tool adapter

2 new belts

Hose is lovely

Took it to my mums one lunchtime

and did a quick video

Not a valid youtube URL

Works well! It then went back into the car for a further week, and today I bought it in. One of the big issues is that the handle lock doesn't work, a common issue, which makes storing it annoying.

The top cord hook is interesting, not seen one like this before

Underplate off

and the handle bail is removed with 4 screws

Circlip comes off the end of the large pin that goes through the handle assembly

The plate that moves with the pedal to push the locking bracket out the way comes off first

The main pin gets knocked through, and it and the spring removed

2nd circlip on the smaller pin removed next

Split

I gave everything a clean off. Main pin is a bit worn

Cleaned

All of this was just to clean the mechanism. The main actual issue is this

I made a new step with a pair of snips on one side, but the other side is thicker, so I'll grab a Hacksaw in the future and profile 2 nice new steps

Mvacs - These are those random springs I sent you, they may be held in with a little pin through the chassis, the 1334 is... peel the bumper down to check on the corners

The last thing I did was replace the belt

The old one was not streched, but has lost it's elasticity a bit, the new belt transformed it!

Old belt was genuine at least

Plug was nice and old too

That'll do for now, it works much better now!

Nice, I love the cable hooks  :)) pure genius.

Is that the top fill one?

The spring clips just clip in if the main body is plastic, alloy ones had small roll pins.

I managed to get 2 new old stock ... things... with the hooks that fit on the bottom of the handle, didn't know you could hack a new bit on them.

It's much better, makes you wonder why they didn't think of it before?

Just seen that, handy then. Luckily my bodge with snips seems to have worked, will nibble it out more neatly at some point when it all comes apart again for a refurb!
