1970s Hoover Constellation

So this is my Constellation, it's in great condition.



Came with original pipes and what's left of cleaning head.



The hose was damaged but easily fixed, went through the machine OK



Connection end is in good condition.



Lift the lid



3 screws hold the top plate on, with that removed you have access to the motor, It's only held by a rubber socket at the bottom and a rubber ring on the top.



Hmm hairy motor.





The hair was stuck in the veins of the fans, after pulling out as much as possible i burned the rest off with matches.  The inside bottom of the motor was full of 40+ years of crap, after digging it out and sneezing like a maniac (dust allergy and vac reconditioning really don't go together) I put a drop of oil on top and bottom bearings and set the dc14 to work.



With it put back together I got the filter, I hand washed this as I didn't want to risk it falling apart in the wash.

sounds perfect! I got one the other day (as you know)  and it sounds shit and doesnt float (just how we like em though!)

Have discovered the filter is fitted wrong and there is a seal missing in the top part where the lid fits into bag  Tracking down the correct cleaner head is going to be hard.

I should take a break from Dysons and move into oldie stuff, the oldest vacuum I ever played with was a Dirt Devil handy Zip  Want something like a nice Hoover upright or traditional kirby

I am a bit scared now, a lot of oldie vacuums have supressors which go bang

All vacs have suppressors, even my 1955 junior.

I thought it was only pre 90's vacuums? I believe they were used to stop inteference with TV's or signals, or something

Yep thats right, anything with a motor will have a suppressor to stop Rf interference.

A connie will have a big Hoover Junior/Senior style suppressor. I've known of them to go pop, but not as much as Electrolux ones
