DC27 Brush Roll Diagnosis
« on: February 27, 2016, 09:48:53 am »
Hi all,

Have trawled this forum and others with regard to resolving the fact that my DC27's brush roll bar no longer spins in use.

Have cleared all 'debris' from around the roller, spun with my finger (and it moves freely), and the belt remains intact.

What I'd like to know is based on your experiences is it there a brush roll motor (seperate from the motor listed on Manchester Vacs website?) in this model, and if so does it need replacing?

I simply want to get the diagnosis correct first time rather than have to buy multiple parts and still be left with the same problem.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Have a look here:

You can see the small motor shown with the wires numbered 6.

These are not the easiest machines to work on but you will be able to fix it.

Just had a thought. I am sorry if it sounds obvious but have you checked the clutch is in the correct position? I had a man bring one to me saying the brush won't turn and he had the clutch in the wrong position.

Thanks for your replies.

Have definitely checked the clutch is in the correct position.

So does this point to the motor being faulty? The only motor spare I see on the website is this one:

https://manchestervacs.co.uk/Dyson/DC27-spare-parts.html/dyson-motor-ydk-yv-dc04-dc07-dc14-dc27-dc33?sort=p.price&order=DESC

It doesn't mention that it is for the brush roller.

Thanks.

It sounds like the problem is related to the motor. The only way to know is to strip it down and test. If you are confident with electrics you will be able to do it. Take your time and take photos to help with reassembly.

You can email mvacs about the motor. They have loads of spares so will have what you need.

The DC27 doesn't have a brushbar motor so the clutch is most likely the culprit if the switch is in the right position

Is this a UK model DC27 or an American DC27? American ones have a brushbar motor like the DC28 but British ones have a clutch

If the clutch is in the correct position and the brushbar spins freely, I'm thinking the belt from the motor to the clutch may have snapped

For the life of me I don't know why I but I looked at the wrong schematic this morning. It was only until I was moving my machines into our new shop that I realised. Apologies everyone!

I think it is as young Mr Parwaz says. Motor to clutch belt snapped. Either replace the complete clutch or change the belt if you have the tools to strip the clutch down.
