Monday night eBay Dyson Adventure!
« on: February 22, 2016, 09:18:21 pm »
Thought people would be interested in my mini debacle relating to an over zealous bid on a faulty DC27.

Usually I am fairly restrained but I like my own DC27 very much and this has the mini turbine head with it. So I figured a bid for another to keep my current one company was in order.

I won the auction for not a lot and got the details for where exactly this broken hoover was.

Stuck the post code in google. Hmmmm not good. Staffordshire is a silly county and covers a lot of nothing!

Hmm 60 mile round trip  :sick0012: Not sure how I managed that.

In the absolute middle of nowhere, and I mean nowhere!

Great fun.

So on a Monday night, after a long day at work I am spending 45 minutes each way driving cross country for a shagged hoover. Bit of a FML moment really  :))

Found the place after driving down miles and miles of single track roads and a couple of calls for directions. Deal done lovely!

So best part of 2 hours of my life I won't get back and I am home.

Mrs not impressed.

Eat my tea and half heartedly look at the not so sucky DC27.

Looks pretty good in the light. Hmm.

Filters are clean and recent.

Hmm

Motor works a treat, no nasty sparking.

So what's the issue?

Hello there  :tiphat:

All is well that ends well, mint machine that doesn't even need a strip down bar the cyclone, happy days!

Silly story for today  :biglaugh:

I bet we have all been there.  :))

If I put something on eBay that is for collection, I put the postcode area in the listing so people are clued up.

But yea, lots of times I have won something that seemed cheap, and had to turn the collection of same into a 'fun Sunday drive' that ended up costing me more in a restaurant on the way home than there will be profit in it, or wasting time in the evening I could be quaffing wine and smiling by the open fire rather than trailing about someplace 20 miles further than I imagined at sub zero temperatures.

Its the fun of eBay. You did well this time. Always nice when that happens.

I always ask for a vague location! I do alot of my bidding and winning  during the day on a 10 mile radius from work so Amy doesnt find out.  Got to be careful as 10 mikes hits bracknell,  heathrow,  staines,  hayes etc and fudge that at a lunchtime!

And yes,  been there,  in the middle of bum *snip* nowhere with no sat nav or phone signal,  at 8.30 in the dark for a 99p dc07...

Lol did you get that for £5 buy now off eBay?
Awesome result! ;D Haha that hose, reminds me of a DC27 I saw, being sold as perfectly working, asked for an "underneat" picture and saw the hose missing :o I asked why is it missing, it will cause loss of suction at the head

The seller said "it's there and when the head is reclined it will start sucking when it joins the suction part" IIRC im like WTF bruh you must be kidding and I still see no bloody internal hose haha

Also been there ;D Was collecting a DC01 Destijl and the roads were so dodgy, we had to drive up and down atleast 5 times in the same place!  Very confusing, even the navigator was confused I bet

You me same  :))

I try to avoid this but a few times a year I end up in exactly the same situation collecting oddities, usually computer gear but for the moment it's bloody hoovers.

Though I draw the line at going on lunchtime jaunts beko

Aaah it's the easiest way sometimes! Does take some messaging about though as not everyone is about at lunchtime. Picking up an Electrolux Mondo that 'sounds loud' friday lunchtime! 1h10m round trip but work wont mind a few mins here and there
