I used the connie quite alot yesterday upstairs (moving beds about etc) and the bags split somewhere, as the filter is covered in crap. Hopefully the hepaflo bag has kept it all the right side. Need to look at crafting some better bag onto it, the single wall Hoover ones can't cope with 1200w, even before it split the fine dust was coming straight out of it and onto the filter

If I can craft a Hepaflo bag onto it I'll put the original filter back onto it as the hepaflo bag should keep everything in, otherwise I'll need to write off another hepaflo bag to cut up, and I'm getting low on those, must buy another load on payday. I need to keep the numatic motor ok, as if I get a new motor job in for £, it's coming back out to be used properly to save me buying another motor.

I have never done a full machine re spray, but need to/want to do it one day! What sort of finish can one get with a spray can? I've started learning, did the brushroll of the 1346 wit ha can of poundland spray and it came up OK, has a run or 2, but is hidden so not too critical.

My 652C will need a paint, as does my 417G, and the connie needs to not have a silver base one day, I just did it silver as I had a can, and wanted to cover the rust so it didn't mark the carpet!

Also Gareth, you'll know what I mean when I say do you know if the long rivets holding the fancase bearing in place are available anywhere? What are they called/what should I be searching for?

In my Hoover manual it says to replace them with bolt and nut combo.

I have used cans before, I like rustoleum as it gives the best finish but I often just use my compressor and spray gun.

Either way I always rub down and buff up the paintwork after it has set

I'm experimenting with poundland ones for now! Will probably get the Ford Ivory White from Halfords or ebay though.

When spraying old vacs, wether down to the metal or not, do you use primer anyone?

If its bare metal, defiantly, if not it depends on the original paint finish. Halfords do a big can of appliance white, Its what I sprayed the Bendix in. Its pretty good.

My inclination is to send them off for shot blasting and powder coating. Like we do with AB01 Airblade bodies.

How much does that cost though? And how are they at colour reel,  which my matching? I don't know the paint code for Smoked Pine or  Swedish Green,  which my 417 is

We use a place I have been using for about 20 years for wheels, gates and whatnot. Specialist colours take longer and cost more as they must set up the booth. Airblades are silver so go in with wheels. Black, silver and white they do every day. Other colours take longer.

But the finish is perfect!

I fancy doing a few Connies with modern cables and generic hoses and heads, powder coated in funky colours, to the retro folks.

Sounds expensive, and I really should have a crack with rattlecans first, just to learn (then I can fix the damage to Amys rear bumper, and paint the wing of my car...)

Connies themselves are quite cheap in 'needing paint' conditions, and if you can find a source of the hose adapters, any old 32mm shit will fit. You would do well to powdercoat complete ones in their original colours, they seem to fetch £100+ easily even with tools missing!

I'd swap you mine for some random dyson parts, but the 1200w motor makes it run bloody hot, and probably not suitable for daily use by some hipster tw@t. And I'm not faffing around with the original motor anytime soon!
