Dyson bins heated
« on: May 30, 2016, 10:35:41 pm »
I read online a while ago saying that if you get a heatgun or a blowtorch or something it can remove scratches off clear plastic. I had a scrap DC14 Animal in the garden and got a blowtorch then heated.

It worked well! The bin was as clear as a brand new one, literally omg. BUT there were some white tiny bubbles   :-\ Is there any way to avoid bubbling of the plastic?

The white area is the small tiny bubbles due to heat damage
It looks quite clear in real life :)

You heated that bit too much and melted it.

I thought that, but it was the same time when the plastic started getting clear and about a milli-second later the bubbles came.

Yes I used a blowtorch. What's the difference between a heat gun and a hair dryer?

Well, I'm kind of surprised you used a Blue flame on plastic, even a Yellow flame would have been dodgy... Although I'd expect carbon staining from a yellow flame (black marks)
The blowtorch is exactly why you ended up melting it.
A heatgun is just hot air, no fire at all, same for hair dryers but I don't think a hair dryer would be hot enough... One way to find out though!

I'm taking a scrap DC24 bin to work tommorrow to try it with a heat gun
