SEBO X1.1 - Issues with auto height adjust on carpet
« on: January 19, 2024, 08:48:19 pm »
Hi all

My first post on the forum and hoping someone can give me their thoughts.

I have a 13 year old Sebo X1.1. Throughout those 13 years it has been flawless, however, just recently, I've noticed it has not been as effective on our carpets. It's as if it is riding just slightly too high and isn't grooming the carpets correctly. For info, we have the same carpet throughout the house which is only 18months old and it has a fair depth of pile.

At first I thought the brushroll was just worn, however after fitting a brand new, genuine one today (the 'blue bristles' type) it appears to have made no difference.

I've had the machine apart and checked the following:
  • Suction - as good as its always been and still works fine with the extension hose and turbo brush tool on the stairs.
  • Blockages - none. Completely clear right down to the brushroll.
  • Height adjust servo - appears to be working. When the cleaner is in its upright 'parked' position, it rises to its maximum height, and on our hardwood floor, it drops right down as expected. On the carpet, it does adjust itself, but, as I say, it feels like it's not lowering enough.
  • Belts - these look to be in good condition and are not slipping.
  • Motor - still loads of life left in the brushes and the commutator relatively clean.
  • PCB - no obvious damage i.e. no 'black marks' to infer that a resistor has burnt out etc.
  • Filters - replaced only a few bagfulls ago.

I was wondering if the issue could be the Belt Sensor Unit (Type 4 in my machine)?

Has anyone else ever had this issue and managed to resolve?

I did see an older forum post on here where the the person 'tricked' their Sebo X4 into the correct height, and then pulled the connector for the servo off the PCB so that it disabled the auto height adjust. I did actually test this earlier today too, and while that does 'work', I would prefer the machine operated as it's meant to.

Are the green lights working on the machine? The ones that denote it raising and lowering?

If it is a very deep pile carpet, it won't go too low or it won't get the airflow it needs. Has it been doing this on that carpet since it was fitted?
