Sounds about like I expected.
Sorry for not clarifying, a neato is another brand or robot vacuum, which uses a laser mapping system. Their brush turns in the same direction as the wheels. On roombas the rubber brush turns like this but then the main bristle brush rotates the opposite direction. This helps it to scoop up dirt.

I just thought I saw in some of dyson's videos that the brushbar in the 360 eye spins the wrong way, which might make sense considering the bin is at the front. If the brush does spin like this it would help propel dirt towards the bin I would have thought.

Looking forward to your notes on this with continued use.

I haven't got enough carpet at home to give it a meaningful test. We are mostly hard floors.

Hmm, I just saw a review video on youtube that confirms this. That may be one of the minor changes dyson made between the reveal back in 2014 and the actual launch, such as the addition of the plastic strips on the base plate that run across the brush. These weren't there at the initial reveal.

Where is the suction inlet? Is it behind or in front of the brush bar?

I am not sure now.

Ours has gone back today. It had navigational issues, it kept getting itself stuck, it randomly stops and starts, occasionally dies altogether in the middle of the floor and doesn't report all activity to the app as it should. It also is unable to navigate simple items properly like doorstops (hits it repeatedly), glass tables (hits it repeatedly) and sloped base barstools (spent 15 mins trying to climb it). In my house it also sometimes gets lost and is unable to return to base.

It would seem to me that the software needs some work yet and this item isn't yet ready for market.

At that money, the item has to be absolutely spot on. It isnt spot on, so it has gone back. Were it cheaper, I might have put up with its idiosyncrasies, and hoped later software updates would make it better. But at the money it is, clever as it is, it must be better than it is IMO.

That's a shame, but I absolutely agree with you. For that kind of money and for the 16 years it has been in development it should work properly (to coin a phrase).

Back to the roomba then

That's a shame hopefully it's just your one  :(  by any chance did you put the base right in the corner without half a meter or clearance, as it messes up it's navigation  and makes it hard for it to Doc, and I'm going to be getting myself  :money:one of these to see what they're like ;) i've had every robot vacuum under the sun neato's irobot's and samsung which I found the latest one to be the best the vr9300 tubo but Nearo and irobot are second-best.but Let's see if this Dyson can beat that :icon_nod:

And mvacs if are you looking for a different robot i definitely suggest  One of these as I love the one I tested http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/home-appliances/vacuum-cleaners/robot/VR20K9350WK/EU?cid=uk_ppc_google_750-235-0904_evaluateproductpowerbot_exact_280616&ef_id=V2yh@wAABMLwPa1K:20160720225857:s      .  As the new Dyson came out I did not keep it as I wanted to test the new Dyson to see what that was like, but once I've tested the new Dyson I will make my mind up on which one is best for our home

Yes, the base was in a corner. I had read some stuff online about base location but the recommendations (like middle of the room) were simply not workable.

Having watched it, this to me looks like a software issue. I expect as Dyson gets feedback via the app from many machines they will address issues they see popping up again and again and it will improve as they put out updates remotely. But right now, for my application, it wasn't quite good enough at the money. I might try another one later on when they come down.

I seriously hope they do improve it, seems like it has a lot of promise.

In the mean time I'll muddle through with the myriad of free "broken" roombas I've acquired, and perhaps when the 360 eye is ready I can sell off all the roombas to buy one!

i've had every robot vacuum under the sun neato's irobot's and samsung which I found the latest one to be the best the vr9300 tubo but Nearo and irobot are second-best.but Let's see if this Dyson can beat that :icon_nod:

I've wanted to try one of the new samsung robots, but even the base model is way out of my price range (heck, pretty much any robot is right now). I'm mainly interested in the cyclonic aspect of it, which I would imagine could reduce filter maintenance.
Besides, I don't trust my neato to hold up much longer. Thanks for the recommendations heidi!

I'm a software tester, tell them to send me one over, with instruction on how to terminal into it's codebase and I'll help them out...

I agree, whilst it's fun to troubleshoot stuff, not at £800! That's always the problem with first gen tech. The guy next to me in the office got a Galaxy S6 Edge the day it was released, and suffered from the software issues it had, with no fix, no custom roms and nothing on the internet short of 'its a problem'

I'll send you that tatty blue Junior back and you can make it into this if you want something to play with - Not a valid vimeo URL

When I get mine I'll let everyone know how it does, I should get it on Monday  8) dysondc16 the Samsung will  probably do go down in price soon enough as are usually do.i will probably get 1 if they go down to around 600 or 650 as 800 is a bit much but it's dam good robot even for its £800 it's still worth it but I don't like to pay retail so yeah.
