Dyson DC24 hepa - removal of rotating carpet sweeper assembly
« on: August 28, 2016, 11:34:11 pm »
Hello, I am a new member from Melbourne Australia.

The rotating brush-gear (carpet-sweeper) on my Dyson DC 24 no longer rotates.

On searching the web I found your site and its helpful videos.  I can work through that process - : clogged, power supply, or motor failure etc.  However, all your videos show the assembly already removed and I'm not sure how this is done.

There is a single screw on the underside but after that?.  I am loath to use any force since the materials are hard plastic and probably intolerant to force.  Do I twist, pull or is there something else that I should do?

HELP!

John

If you mean removing the main cleanerhead from the machine, like so:

THANKS!  Looks simple, but I didn't want to use too much force and break something.

I'm away from home at the moment but I'll try this when I get back home at the weekend.

Cheers,
John

OK Thanks, Roller Bar successfully off now.   230V AC power supply OK to Roller Assembly.  Roller motor has resistance between terminal leads of > 200 kOhm - Fault to Open Circuit?

I have not checked power supply from pcb.  Is it OK to operate this on no-load?  That is, can I energise it with the 230V DC motor disconnected?

My thinking is that before I order a replacement motor, I'll check to see if the pcb is also faulty.

Thanks for help so far.

John

Yes the pcb is fine with no load,  hook the meter up to the pins the motor plugs into,  with the machine on and reclined.  300v rings a bell,  but I'm never 100% sure,  you should see something anyway.

With 230V AC to input of pcb, output is 316V DC.  So, I think that pcb is OK.  :tiphat:

With the motor, I have open circuit (>200kOhm) between the brass brush holder ends. Connections to the motor from pcb are OK.

I think that it could possibly be a worn brush, not contacting the commutator properly or simply a burnt-out armature winding.  I'm thinking of removing the brushgear to check brush condition but I suspect that in the end, I'll have to replace the motor as a whole unit. :(

Regards,
John

You need a motor.

Ours are >here< and are OEM. Beware non OEM ones as some out there are very poor quality.

What is OEM?   Is it the manufacturer or a compliance standard?

My existing motor has a label which says:
JOHNSON
DF651(2)LG
240 V DC
50502200020B
1D60060 CL.B

OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer IE a genuine part
