DC33
« on: September 09, 2016, 06:42:55 pm »
I bought a refurbished DC14 on Amazon. It arrived in good condition and very clean and although it felt like it was sucking very well, when I hoovered the carpet it did not clean at all. I contacted the supplier and she went through a list of checks with me, but all seemed OK. In the end they arranged a courier to collect and at my request replaced it with a DC33. Again arrived in nice clean condition, but to my horror it does not Hoover my carpet at all. I was too embarrassed to get back to the supplier. I used to have. DC04 at it was the best Hoover I have ever had. I'm so disappointed I really want a Dyson upright. I would like a DC14 and would be happy to throw in the DC33 for part exchange.

A DC33 and DC14 are both more powerful than a DC04. Have you checked that the brush is in contact with the floor? It could be that the small hose underneath is stiff and has lost it's springiness to push the head into the carpet.

Can I ask who the seller was? That may shed some light on it.

I would agree with Parwaz.

If you have good suction from the hose and poor suction from the head I would say the culprit would be the internal hose. So many Dyson refurbishers use cheap and inferior internal hoses. These don't work very well with clutched models particularly as they pull the rear of the soleplate away from the floor resulting in a loss of suction and performance.

The internal hose is easy to check. Slowly tilt the machine back into the vacuuming position and check the rear of the soleplate isn't being pulled up; the soleplate should stay level with the floor surface. If it is being pulled up you can either contact the seller to return the machine or purchase an original Dyson hose here from Manchester Vacs (they're quite easy to fit).

Let us know how you get on

Yes, there are issues with many non-genuine internal hoses. They are too stiff meaning the head does not contact the floor properly. We only keep Dyson ones in now to solve this. Yes they are more expensive, but they work. And dont cause the problems like Kate is talking about.

Kate if you are local to us, I will happily have one of our chaps look it over to see if it is the hose and/or something and nothing in the time it takes you to drink a coffee.

Thank you all for your answers, yes when I tip the machine into vacuuming position, the back of the floor plate lifts off of the floor. The seller was Dyson Deals Hampshire Ltd. I live in Liverpool, which is local enough! I could bring it in to you, I was thinking that reading through your site I would really appreciate an expert checking it.

I never heard of that seller, but I just Googled them and they seem to have an internet presence. Assuming the machine looks presentable enough, has been cleaned properly and seems to run OK, I'd wager that it's only a little tweak and/or a minor issue as the chaps above suggest. Both 14s and 33s are good machines generally. If you wanted a trek over from Liverpool, it likely won't cost very much and we have frothy coffee!  ;D

If you come over, just mention to Claire in our shop you are the lady who posted on the forum here. Our location and opening times are >here<.

The internal hose may need a small twist,  I have to do this with aftermarket hoses. If you have the cleaner upright,  lay it down on its side,  and you will see the hose underneath.

It should flow like a very shallow s,  so just grab it and twist it half a cm,  then try thr machine. Keep twisting (but don't go too far as it will unscrew from the machine...),  if you get no luck one way,  try the other way.  You should see,  when you get it right that the cleanerhead sucks itself to the floor,  and the brushroll will bring the pile up.

This is assuming the suction etc is fine as well.

I always test machines first doing this,  then a quick vac out of the bin to get the dust out it picks up with a forward pass.

Good luck!

The internal hose may need a small twist,

Kate brought her machine over today. Indeed it was said hose. As it was 'reconditioned', it also had a couple of seized soleplate wheels and a broken filter clip. Those little issues aside, the folks who built it didn't do a bad job overall to be fair. Shame they didnt floor test it properly before sending it out. The devil is in the detail.  :coffee:
