Seems that not putting in a pre motor filter ends in disaster (fantom) does anyone have any cinetic horor stories or is it too early to find out?

People think Dyson made a mistake with Cinetics, I don't see any problem as long as people don't overfill them, but if you vacuum up excessive fine dust like shake N vac and plaster dust it will get into the motor. As a matter of fact, MVacs had a DC54 with a blown motor a while ago due to plaster dust

I just got done rebuilding a ametek motor which was caked in plaster dust. What made me think of the cinetic. My bet is that the tips will perish leading to failures.

Any fine dust will get through and kill them. Plaster dust, shake 'n' vac or fire ash will kill them pretty fast.

Dust plus moisture clogs the 'uncloggable' cyclones. Which are then a PITA to take apart and wash, see here: https://www.instagram.com/p/BK2yz7Og0kV/

The flexi neck on the cylinders clogs up.

We have done quite a few motors on them.

People roll in with them and the line is usually, "We had the builders in, they used the vac, and now it doesn't work any more".

Builders in the UK seem to only use Green Dc04's, Numatics and Karchers

Not all of them though, they typically use your house vacuum even if they have their own in the van!!!

Talcum powder, castor surge, flour, it will all end up in the cyclone and motor.

I am quilty of using a dyson to clean a fireplace. BUT I did service it after, its still going ten years later.

Lol don't feel bad, I did worse...

I used a DC08 without the pre motor filter to vacuum up LOADS of plaster dust, sawdust, nails, grit, you name it and it then got stored outdoors for 4 months in the garden (in the rain, heat and snow) and then I decided to take it home 4 months later, it worked great! Just had very dry bearings.

I vacuumed up plaster with a DC01, DC03, DC04, DC05, DC07, Dc08, DC14, DC24 and DC25 before

I use the dc17 at work to vacuum up the crumbling plaster walls but its more like beach sand than dust so it doesnt harm it.

I seen a YouTube video where a guy vacuumed up something that looked like sawdust with a DC17 a good few times by emptying it all out again and re vacuuming it. The filter at the end looked spotless! Level 3 root cyclone technology looks great.
