Dyson DC50 brush cuts out
« on: November 23, 2016, 10:09:14 pm »
I just got a DC50i for the bargain price of £25 last night with two on board tools ;D

I had a DC50 Animal about 2 weeks ago and it was great, then sold it. Worked brill on all my flooring with no problems. When I used this DC50i, the brush cuts out every 15 secs or so, so I stand it upright and recline it again to get it working again to reset it. This could also be done when switching the brush off and then on too.

It isn't the loom because when I move the vacuum at different vacuuming angles there's no cutting out, just when I use it on the floors it only runs for about 15 secs.

Btw the brush spins perfectly fine by hand! No hair etc in the brush.

Also, When I try to use it for actual vacuuming, (I mean long term so I force it to work by constantly resetting the brush) it would have to cut out about 10 times before it realises it's gotta work, so after cutting out on numerous occasions it works brilliantly after that.

I thought I had fixed it till I left it overnight and used it in the morning, same thing again! It goes round in circles  :'( I have no idea if it's the motor or whatever

We are starting to see the brushroll motors and the PCBs go faulty in these. One today needed both. It causes erratic behaviour sometimes.

Damn, just as I thought these were almost much more reliable than a DC24

Ha wishful thinking! Someone at work came to my desk today to say her DC50 Brushroll had stopped. She's only had it a year so I said ring Dyson as its probably the motor

It sounds like yours is pulsing power Tayyab. Dry solder joint?

Doubt it's a loose connection sadly I'm kinda annoyed at it already as its quitting over the thinnest and thickest of carpets
The brush motor keeps thinking its jammed for some reason :/ now that Stu mentioned it could be the pcb that's on my mind

I had a Dc50 in around two weeks ago now that the PCB had burnt out and the head was  :dead-dyson:, thought it was at first the wiring like the dc40 but no.
So had to replace both.

We had one like that this week, PCBs were as yet unobtainable (backorder) as ERP model, result was one scrapped DC50 as the bloke didn't want to cough up for both anyway.
