Dyson DC04 Hose End Stuck In The Wand Handle
« on: December 06, 2016, 04:26:40 pm »
I have two DC04s (on with clutch, the other without) where the end of the back hose has detached and stayed on the wand up inside the plastic handle. Is it possible to separate the plastic handle from the metal pipe to retrieve it or is it time for a new wand?
Thanks
Richard

(Do this on a carpeted surface to prevent any damage to anything including the wand) But tap the bottom of the wand so the hose cuff can be banged out, if not then pop off the cable winder cap with a flat blade, un screw with a T 15 and take the cable hook off, then grab the pole firmly and then twist and pull till it comes out ;)

Having took the cable hook out, we warm up the handles on a radiator till they are quite hot in order to expand them enough the pole will twist out. It's a two person job usually.

That said, a hose end can be usually retrieved with much swearing and long nose pliers.

Thanks guys. I already tried Parwaz's method and MVacs second method (including the swearing), but I'll give the warming up method a try tonight. Its good to know that they do actually come apart.

I've had the wands apart with a rubber mallet as per Parwaz's suggestion before

We split them quite often to convert non-clutched wands into clutched ones. If you are intending to get the pole back in again and at the correct length, I have yet to find a better way than heating them up.

Belting plastic with a mallet seems to be like Russian Roulette.
