Fix DC08 or buy a reconditioned upright?
« on: December 14, 2016, 03:01:56 pm »
I have a DC08 which needs a new turbo head and new handle part ... which I think will cost £70-75 in total. It probably also needs servicing. I am trying to decide whether to do all that, or just buy a reconditioned DC14 (or other model?) from you. is the DC08 worth fixing for the money? What would you recommend. We live in a large 4 bedroom bungalow - 2 kids, cat, lots of carpeted rooms and a couple with laminate floors.

A DC14 is probably your best bet, simple and reliable.

We have a DC14 and I swear by it, it's an amazing design for a vacuum cleaner. Very powerful, cleans better than a DC08, easy to push, very durable and sturdy and is capable of handling kid and pet messes.

What would you recommend. We live in a large 4 bedroom bungalow - 2 kids, cat, lots of carpeted rooms and a couple with laminate floors.

A DC08 will be hard work in that house. Either a DC14 will suit, but as you have no stairs and many carpets, also consider the Sebo X1.1. For not much more money than a DC14 recon, a new Sebo with a 5 year guarantee is a good buy for what is a very capable machine.

More on Sebo >here<. But if you prefer a Dyson, a DC14 or a DC33 will be fine.

I'd go for an upright too tbh, it'll clean the carpets better, although would one with brush control be something you would like? The Sebo will clean the laminate OK, but may scatter bits about. Unless you can sweep the main part into a pile and suck it up, then go round with the tools on the edges. Depends how big the rooms are I suppose.

RE the DC08, which handle part is it? The hose end handle or the handle you pick the machine up with? It's probably not worth spending out on a new turbo head at full price, but check ebay for second hand bargains etc. Or, buy a shiny new toy, wash the filters in the washing machine and keep it for the cars or above floor cleaning etc.

You probably will be better with an upright though, the dyson turbo heads are not renowned for their deep cleaning abilities!
