A Company that I know very little about, Twin V manufactured twin-tub washing machines at the turn of the 1960s.

Sunco Electrical Appliance Catalogue 1939

Ephemera like this has to be pretty rare, but it also provides a unique snapshot of the goods that were available in 1930s Britain. The catalogue throws up spin dryers, domestic dishwashers, ice cream makers, pop-up toasters and other items one would assume would not have existed at the time.

Other items are notable for their styling, such as the Belling Streamline cooker, which would not look that out of place in a modern kitchen, or the aggressive looking Premier Heat-Controlled iron, with its lamp "in the form of a lighthouse" on the front of the cowl.

All in all, this catalogue is a fascinating archive of electrical equipment available in the UK in the immediate pre-war period, and hopefully will prove to be of interest.

Parnall were the electrical division of Radiation, who were well known for their gas cookers. This company produced a mixture of its own designs, plus license-built versions of American machines - such as the Vibra-Beat vacuum, which was sold under the Eureka brand name in the USA.

Ermahgawd I have one of these!!!! The Vibra-beat is a cool bit of kit. Mine needs a switch though, which is quite hard to find in the UK (American Bretherin, could you help? That style of vac is more common over there, Eureka Canned Ham etc but I don't know what the switch looks like)

Must get it running one day and show you all, I can direct wire the motor so it runs with the wall socket at least! I got a nice airtight hose from a collector in Canada a few years ago too as mine was shot.

Here's a cracker:

In the 1950s we were probably pleased that the “germicidal lamp” flooded our wash with “sanitising rays”. Well, who wouldn’t be?
