Dyson V6 absolute
« on: December 28, 2016, 05:14:59 pm »
I have just had some carpets fitted. The fitter said I mustn't use my Dyson V6 as it would damage the carpet because it is has a loop pile.  There is no mention of this on Dyson's website or advertising.  This my only vacuum cleaner and paid a lot for this 6 months ago.  Dyson have said to buy the mattress cleaning head.  Is this correct or am I being fobbed off.

I heard that carpet manufacturers are just paid by certain companies to recommend their own brand.Don't know if this is true. The V6 Absolute should be fine, there's no way it can be aggressive enough to damage your carpets, they have soft bristles.

That's just a cordless vacuum with a fair amount of suction and a gentle brushroll. A Kirby and Sebo for example would be way more aggressive because they have more aggressive cleaning performance, so I think you'll be fine.

Come on Parwaz what's the matter with you, it's common knowledge that you can't use brush rolls on looped carpets because it'll damage it.  :'(

I'd say use a straight suction head and not the brush head, Jen.

We have like a 10 year old looped carpet in the landing and it's fine! We use all sorts of uprights on it and there's never really any carpet fibres in the bin

Well to be honest I use Kirby's and my Sebo on some short loop pile carpets and they're always fine, but seen as in the owners manual always tells you not to, and there is the chance that it will catch the loops and pull them up I thought it was best to advise against it

And your not supposed to use just suction on very short pile carpets as they can go fluffy, but who bothers  :chuckle:

A few loops have been pulled out only because the end of the carpet was coming off and the brushbar caught on them

I'm sure poor Jen wants to know what she should do... Personally I'd just use the Vacuum as normal and forget my initial advice (I said that just to be safe).

I have just had some carpets fitted. The fitter said I mustn't use my Dyson V6 as it would damage the carpet because it is has a loop pile.

Aggressive rotating brush rolls will eventually destroy loop pile carpets like Berber. However, I wouldn't have thought a V6 was powerful or aggressive enough to make much difference. Especially if it has the fluffy brush roll fitted. Dyson cordless are after all very light duty machines.

What brand is the carpet?

Our burber/loop pile carpet has had all sorts of Dyson uprights in the course of 10 years being used on it to this day and now even with Kirby vacuums there's hardly ever been any fluff picked up, just the usual dirt and the carpet pile is actually flat now :/
