Will a Ametek motor fit a Absolute with a few mods
« on: December 30, 2016, 03:44:30 am »
Ok, So using the Ametek rubbers and retaining ring would I be able to fit a Ametek motor to the Purple motor housing originally fitted with a YDK motor?

Unfortunately not, they are different for a reason and they are different sized.

The YDK from a DC04 will fit the DC07, but a DC04 Ametek will not fit a DC07 (I tried once) it was just too small, the belt would keep slipping off the spindle because it just didn't fit right. The motor retainer is also there for a reason. It holds it in place. If the motor moves slightly, the spindle will be misaligned so the belt would keep slipping.

You can use any DC07/14 motor in it TBH, even brand new cheapo ones from £13

So using the retaining ring, and top and bottom rubbers i'd be able to fit an Ametek motor to my DC04 Absolute

I didn't think you could fit an Ametek to an 07 because of the 07's retaining ring is the whole part the filter sits on.
I did try fitting an Ametek motor to the purple housing and got it all in but the retaining ring wouldn't fit, I just thought it was because its a diffrent motor, looking back I do remember is not being fully lined up, guess I should have tried moving the motor about  bit

I never knew a DC04 lime motor would fit a clutched YDK DC04, interesting ;D I always thought they were smaller than the YDK by a bit

Yeah the motors are slightly smaller,But the seals make up for the size diffrence, I suppose its so dyson doesn't have to invent a whole new chassis design for two diffrent motors

I'm always learing something new about these hoovers. So can anyone tell me what parts make up the Dyson DC04 Ametek Motor Adaptor Kit? The wifes trusty DC04 Silver and Lime decided to part company with the motor so I sourced a new YDK Motor for it not realising that i needed an adapter kit for it of which I sourced from Mancester Vacs, now I am not knocking Mancester Vacs in any way however I didnt realise that it would be second hand parts that was sent out and I do not have a problem with that but I couldnt help but think I have those parts in my spares pile as we all have one but I couldnt find anything so can anyone elighten me?
DC04 and DC07's for me and the occasional DC14.

I can enlighten you. All new genuine Dyson parts are discontinued and have been for several years. We use a mix of recycled and new according to what we have and can source to make that kit. Nowadays, mostly recycled - as and when available - as those parts are quite rare.

The parts we supplied allowed you to do as intended with your machine I am sure you will agree. If not, send them back. We usually have a waiting list for those kits.

As I said I didnt have a problem with second hand parts, but now that you mention it it was not stated at the time of purchase but again I mean no dis respect to Mancester Vacs It does not bother me as long as I get the hoover back up and running its an easier life that way. For sure they will still get my custom as the service provided as always is second to none.

Now does anyone know what parts are used to make this YDK Motor fit into a DC04 Silver/Lime (non clutch)?
DC04 and DC07's for me and the occasional DC14.

They are the equivalent parts from the clutched model. Rare because not available any more new and a machine must die as a donor for each kit sold.

We are discussing making the kit jointly with Q in order that more green DC04s can be saved. But demand may not make a production run worthwhile (hence the discussion).

Yes I see what you mean and good to see that there is an effort to get re productions made to save these machines  :tiphat:
