My DC31 is the same, I'm sure it's the battery.  :boggleeye:

Indeed, quite likely the battery but check both charger outputs first.

Just been asked to look at one of these with the same symptoms. I may be missing something obvious, but how you you check both outputs on the charger? From what I can see (on pictures of it, I haven't got the DC44 in yet), it's just a jack plug? And what voltages should I be getting on each output?

The jack plug comprises a central pin surrounded by a cylinder. The outer is neutral, the inner of the cylinder should give a live reading (about 25vDC), and the pin too (about 18vDC). Often one is dead.

It turned out that the battery and charger were both OK. But the cyclone was badly clogged with what looked like plaster dust. It ran fine with the filter and bin/cyclone off. Have washed the latter assembly and now waiting for it to dry.
But I've learned something useful about how to test the charger,  so thanks for the advice.

Hi everyone,  I know this is an old topic  but I am having similar problems and couldn’t find anything else via a search.
I have a DC44 that cuts out after just ten seconds regardless of what power setting it is on. I have tried it with a new battery and its the same, following the answers already suggested on this topic, I tried running it without a filter or bin assembly and it runs for 15 seconds and stops. I release the button/trigger, repress and it runs for another 15 seconds.
Any ideas?

I have tried it with a new battery and its the same,

This is usually a battery.

If the power numbers on both batteries are the same, and you are sure that the battery you tried is good, you need to be thinking its the main unit really.
