Here we go chaps, the worlds most complicated vacuum cleaner. And the only one dumb enough to take it to bits.
Apologies for any pics that aren't too clear or the wrong way up, this is my first strip down post!
The beast itself, very brutalist looking.
AIRMUSCLE
Tools off.
cyclone off
filters out
hose and wand off, I didn't strip either down as they were quite clean and only needed a good wipe over.
hose is the same part as DC25.

Next take your trusty silver dollar (they work better than quarters) and release the sole plate,
rope seal out
wheels popped off
Big beefy brushbar, next we remove the 5 screws holding the camshaft cover on and remove it
camshaft and cams which adjust the height of the brushbar
Microswitches which tell the controller what position the camshaft is in

Next remove your internal hose
then you can unclip the belt cover
off with blockage flap
next we remove the wheels and axle which will then let you slide out the pivot for the AirMuscle acutator
Remove the suction tubing from the connections

Clear head pivot springs out,
remove the screws holding the clutch cover/airmuscle and remove the cover
exposing the clutch and looms
unclip the looms and remove the belt cover
this exposes the clutch to motor geared belt, check out the pre tensioner!
pop the clear housing from its pivots, remove the camshaft motor and motor with loom then the clear housing, clutch and brushroll are free from the machine.

clutch engage/disengage gear, driven by its own motor with position switches
remove hall effect sensor and unscrew clutch end cap
friction surfaces
remove circlip and clutch will spring apart, this also frees the clutch to brushbar belt
clutch servo motor, i elected not to remove it, but it did clean the worm gear

prise each end of the brushbar out of the clear housing
Next we remove and strip the airmuscle bleed off valve, this is operated by a cam on the camshaft, suction from the main motor is applied to the airmuscle when the machine is in medium and deep pile mode.
possible date for the machine?
last piece off the clear housing is the belt chute
then the airmuslce actuator itself is removed from the clutch cover and split

pop off the retaining clips, at least these are normal ones!
then off with the cleaner head
the microswitch loom is then unclipped from the cleaner head along with the belt tensioner rollers and springs, i elected to leave the carriers in place for fear of breakage
this is the only the cleaner head stripped, bit of a polava!

Now we move onto the main duct assembly and motor which is similar do the DC27, although the American DC27 does not have a clutch knob or helix brushbar.
Off with the slip rings
unscrew and prise out the pin for the post filter lid
unscrew and wiggle out the lower motor cover
this exposes the main CB and looms
remove the diffuser

Now we have to remove the switches and interface CB.
Anyone know what this dilly whomper does? i left it alone
interface CB and switches, these control the settings
main cord off, neutral through the little black box and positive on the main switch
next out is the spine wiring, with the low voltage control cable under the main power cable.

entry seals off
want latch left in place
blockage bypass valve out next
next we unscrew and have a fight and a hissy fit to remove the motor bucket
then the upright switch and loom
next to remove is the changeover valve, which again works similar to DC25.

Change over valve split
port plate come off next
pry off the motor retaining ring, pull out motor and strip off rubber, i didnt remove the loom from the bucket as it was too much of a pain.

Remove the bin, bin release button and then unscrew the cyclone lid
unscrew the small cone lid, my gasket was in good condition.
now prise the shroud from the cones,
then the lower cone and seals
and strip the bin of the pushrod and seal
cyclone done!

split apart the pre filter housing
screws from the DC28
Now we have a fully stripped DC28 ready for the wash, phew!

WOO YEH!!! American Beko style! This is awesome! I enjoyed reading this, thanks for posting!
PS that may possibly be a date on that clear part, 21st of June 2011?
I'm surprised the brushroll was removable- thought it was permanently means to stay there as a complete unit, looks like Dyson doesn't do that
Is the main motor a DC07 motor with a special spindle?
