DC41 - Brushbar Not Turning
« on: March 03, 2017, 09:32:43 am »
I'm currently working on a DC41, which has an inoperative brushbar. Thinking this might be down to a broken loom, I've stripped the machine down, only to find that the loom is completely intact. I have visually checked the loom along its complete run, and have carried out a continuity test on both wires, which has come up OK. A visual examination of the PCB has revealed nothing obviously wrong, and there are no signs of burning, cracking, or loose components etc. The machine will switch on, and the motor runs beautifully, just no brushbar!
The brushbar switch also tests OK for continuity, and operates as it should.

Having read previous posts, it seems highly likely to me that the head is going to need replacement, or at least a motor. I have no qualms at all about stripping it down for investigation, but before I do so, can anyone advise whether there are any other quick checks I can perform on the head to establish what might be wrong? This is a customer's machine, so I don't want to get committed too quickly, particularly since they've just shelled out stupid money on a brand new Dyson handheld. My suspicion is that I will be instructed to go no further, but I'd be grateful for any information, just in case.....

There is no need to strip them, test the output at the socket with a meter. If there, test the continuity across the motor terminals. If dead change the motor, get a cleaner head service assembly or a full head.

Many thanks. My meter has shown no continuity at the terminals of the head itself, so it looks as though the owner will have a decision to make!
