Hi new to forum, have repaired a couple of dysons but my latest is not going to plan, i have a dc47 the motor has blown ,have followed what instructions I can find but I cant seem to get to the motor the case doesn't want to come apart, could anyone point in the right direction or tell me what I'm doing wrong

I think the DC47 is much the same as a DC39, try >>here<<.

Hi, also new and this is the only post on the DC47 motor replacement.

DC47 is quite a bit different to the DC39 and I am stuck trying to crack the egg. There seems to be a hidden screw around the exit for the power cord. Has anyone done a replacement of the motor bucket on one of these or has a manual that would give me advice on how to open up the DC47i?

We know what a DC47 is now, its on our Dyson model number index. That said, I don't recall ever seeing one, so we've not had one apart yet.

So its smaller than the DC39 and has the two tier cyclone similar to a DC54. Based on that I'd be looking for pointers on >this topic<.

I'd be interested if you'd confirm the motor number in that when you get it apart?

If you are still struggling looking for the hidden screw, post a photo of the region where you think it is and I'll get an opinion from the chaps in our workshop.

Hi Thanks for the quick reply. I already saw your link on the DC54 before I posted, it is put together quite differently.

I took a couple of pics of the part stripped unit. Its strange as there is a screw from below where the two halves seem to be sticking and I have that out and can not see any other screw. There appears to be a small plate attached to the hole the cord goes through but it does not appear to be removable without cracking off the top.

I also took a pic of the replacement motor. Sorry its a bit blurred, number is 63328-03.

I've just asked for an opinion and it isn't terribly informative. They can think of no other model that has this set up.

It's agreed they differ to the 39/54 in this regard. We've never done one, and although it would be apart quickly if it were on the desk here, its hard to tell by photos. The suggestion is that clip may be attached to an internal assembly like the cable rewind, and may only release if the screws on the side are undone.

The other [less helpful] suggestion is it may clip in, but until you do the first one you never know where the clip is till you have broke it to find out. Which isn't ideal if you only have one.

BTW, by motor number I meant from the motor inside the housing. Unless its a sealed case digital motor in those? In which case you swap out the full motor housing as you appear to be doing.

I tried to get a better picture of the problem area, even outlined the plate I mentioned but judging from your response its not going to help.

I guess it is a digital motor as its only available as a complete unit.

Anyway thanks again, I'll probe some more... already cracked the backing plate on the service side ball cover by levering in the wrong place but nothing a little bit of superglue won't fix.

Perhaps I'll document how to... when/if I get it apart.

These and any other similar others are what they meant:

If it allows the unit to be prised apart more by undoing them, what is holding the case may be more apparent?

Please do post the solution when you have sussed it.

I have had those out, makes no difference. I'm sure you are correct, they will have to come out when I crack it but there is enough slack in the cable reel behind them for them not be be holding it at this stage. I was just paranoid about losing the small screws so put them back until I have a solution.

Appreciate your help and will post when I have it apart.

Hi Again,

have been a little more forceful and have found that the sticking point is not where I indicated previously, it seems to pivot from above and one end is looser than the other. I suspect there may be some screws into the motor assembly from above, under the handle unit that pops up but I can't see how that comes off either.

Managed to release two clips either side but the unit still seems reluctant to come out.

Unfortunately without physically examining the machine we are unable to advise you further. It is really difficult to help problem solve just with photos. Really sorry about this. Kind regards Claire.
