Hello
« on: March 18, 2017, 12:26:29 am »
Hi all,

Just thought I would introduce myself to all of you on the forum, My name is Marc and I'm a collector of mainly British 'vintage electrical goods' which just happens to include several early and classic vacuum cleaners.

I have noticed a few threads about early vacuums and hope to add to them with stories of some of my machines which include a handful of Hoover Constellation's, a couple of Hoover Juniors 375 & 119, a Senior 612, a lovely old 750 and a rather dilapidated 262 plus a couple of 1930s cylinder vacs one of which is a Goblin Triumph.

My collection of vacs also share home space with many pre 60's valve radio's and over 40 late 1940's to mid 1960's 405 line black and white television sets.
Around our home there are many many sets of vintage Christmas lights dating from the 20's to the 70's and quite a few novelty lamps such as sailing ships, boats and even a lighthouse dating from the 1950s....and not forgetting my missus Glenys and our boss 'Hattie' the cat.  ;D

Oh and by the way we do have a couple of Dyson DC04's on daily duty !  ;)

Cheers,
Marc.

Welcome Marc,

I have one or two old Valve Radio's myself, I sold most of my collection not to long ago though.
I'm a Ham although I don't go on air anymore, due to lack of people mainly.

I hope you enjoy it here.

Welcome Marc. I am developing a passion for older appliances, we now have one of these at home which was inspired by >this topic<

Stick around, I'd like to hear more about the old TVs and radios too.

Hi all,

And thanks for all the 'welcomes'

As well as vacuum cleaners I'm pleased to see there seems to be interest in other vintage electrical appliances too, hopefully I'll be able to share my enthusiasm of all things electrically vintage with you in the future.

taran57,
Now real to real restoration is something I haven't attempted as yet, but you never know what may arrive in the future.  ;)

Rustyskull,
Now that's a name to conjure with  :))  though I reckon sawdust might be more in order than rust for me ! :whist11: Nice to know there are more valve radio collectors out there.

MVacs,
Love the heater you have, I've got 2 almost identical 'HMV' versions tucked away in the loft awaiting restoration.

Cheers,
Marc.

I've been buying the odd one as they crop up. Got maybe 7 now. The plan is to refurbish them all together and go properly to town on them and see if there is a market for a decent refurbished item.

Well I would say there's every chance of that working, they do look pretty special especially when lit.

There are a few more >here<. The plan is to respray them all like the one on the left, LED bulb, fabric coated flex, vintage plug, the odd in-keeping upgrade here and there to make them safe to use. I can see them being bought by folk in trendy flats with red trousers and beards. I am thinking Shoreditch, Islington, etc.

I'm not blind, nor would I say Demented - although another word begining with Re and ending in arded does get thrown around school an awful lot - but then like everything I dont let it get to me. After all we are joking around and I give some meaner words back to them (as a joke)
