DC50 - Full disassembly pictures?
« on: March 21, 2017, 02:25:11 pm »
Hi all,

I purchased a DC50 yesterday for $25USD (I'm excited!) and, after the kids fell asleep at 10pm, was able to start tearing it down to deep clean it.  It had the usual worn beater bar and loss of suction (due to the previous owner vacuuming what appeared to be yarn and way too much dog hair for this light-duty vac).  In any case, I got a little overzealous and, while I bottled and labeled the screws, a couple plastic pieces fell off which I can't identify and I didn't take any pictures during those steps.  :censored:

I searched around but didn't see any of those fantastic pictorials of a DC50 teardown.  Has anyone done/seen one? Without it, this may take a while to put back together...  ;D

Thanks,
George

P.S. Also, how have you found this to compare with a DC14 for daily pickup?  I've trusted the 14 to really suck the dust and dirt out of the carpet, but wouldn't mind a small one like this to get the carpeted stairs.  That said, other than being dirty, I just need to sink another $20 into a fresh beater bar and possibly flip it for $100+?  I'm conflicted.

I was just wondering the same myself, however, a bit further down the search list someone explains how to dismantle the cyclone. Remove the mesh outer and undo the 6 t10 screws.

Ah, that's a good bit to know as well, thanks!  I rinsed the cyclone out with hot water to get it "acceptable" to leave in my basement (I have this thing about other people's dirt :))), but couldn't figure that one out, either.

I'm looking for a full disassembly of the ball, however.

Yea sorry about that! I did have one, but it was utterly ruined and not worth spending money on so I gave it to Tayyab! One day I will get one and do a refurb, one day...

Feel free to give it a shot! Just take a picture of everything you take off step by step and one every step of reassembly! Then spend 3 hours writing it up, run all the pics through irfanview to shrink them down to fit on here and job done!

I am not aware anyone here has done one.

Next time take some photos, make a topic and the topic will be yours when the next person asks this.  :icon_nod:

No problem.  I'm sorry it was ruined.  I have to admit, this is an experience.  I'm going to kick off a post-mortem when I've completed the rebuild because I have alot of thoughts about this vac after taking it apart.  Few are good.  I dislike this machine.

I would have given it a shot if I hadn't asked after tearing it down.  Oh well.  :grinn:

Do the re-assembly for practise! I've done DC07 reassembly threads for fun!

You guys won't mind a reassembly thread full of cursing, complaining and undirected threats, will you?

Wouldn't get me in a church, apart from looking at architecture that is.
