DC35 motorized head
« on: April 04, 2017, 04:18:02 am »
Hi all,

I recently bought a DC35 online and, while it was in extremely good condition and works perfectly, it's missing the motorized head.  I looked around and found the official head is ~$100USD while some knockoffs are ~$20 - $30.  So, the question is are the knockoffs worth it?

Thanks,
George

It depends who makes the after-market one.

Who is the seller in the US selling $20-$30 ones?

Well there is the catch.  Many of the places (ebay, amazon) are selling from China.  In other cases, it's not as clear, but the photos look the same as those from China  :))

For instance, the following search for "DC35 head" https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_gnr_fkmr0?rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Adc35+head&keywords=dc35+head&ie=UTF8&qid=1491307633

Yields these two:

$30
https://www.amazon.com/Motorized-Floor-Brush-Cleaner-Replacement/dp/B01FX46CG8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491307649&sr=8-1&keywords=dc35+head

$25
https://www.amazon.com/First4Spares-Handheld-Cordless-Cleaner-Motorized/dp/B01FMFEPEE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1491307649&sr=8-3&keywords=dc35+head

In fact, I wouldn't mind cleaning up an old head myself, but I recall the price of the motor in the head was almost as much as the head itself (or at least ~$50 USD)

In all, I know it's a gamble but I wasn't sure if one of these cheap models was recognizable to the wider community and, perhaps, even acceptable  :grinn:

The ones sold by First4Spares-US are OK, we have the same ones and we know them. The reviews seem to suggest otherwise though, but that could be faults with users machines. We have never had one back.

The one sold by first4spares with the blue brushroll is the one I had for my DC34. It worked quite well, was a pretty good head. Only thing I hated was that the genuine Dyson DC35 head has a ball so can do a nice turn whereas this one just relies on tiny roller wheels at the back, making it slightly awkward to turn but still doable

Great, thanks!

I'll probably order that soon.  My 3 year old watched me vacuum up some ants and now he walks around with the crevice tool in it sucking up any ant he sees....  in other words, I have lost control of the vacuum until he grows bored of it.   :))

Funny coincidence, I fell over our dc33 the other day as it was just outside by the side gate, apparently Mrs Madrat had found ants in the sitting room (they appear every year) and sucked them up. She didn't want them to crawl out in the pantry, where the dyson lives so had put it outside, I did ask her why she didn't just empty the bin  :boggleeye: :D ::)

Someone could have stolen the gate and then the 33.  :o
