« on: April 30, 2017, 08:57:37 pm »
Could anyone help i have a dc07 with low suction from the wand since having the motor changed.when you remove the pre motor dust cover and filter the suction is strong, when i put the cover and filter back on the suction seems to drop i removed the filter and put the cover back suction is still low before going into the cyclone,if i lean on the cover suction seems to pick up i have changed the seal but no different i am at a loose end what to try next as it seems to be at the pre motor side any help would be great

I honestly don't know exactly what is happening, but it sounds like it was reassembled incorrectly.  The suction is going to follow the path of least resistance, so removing the filters and leaning on it might divert the suction to the wand while it goes in between cracks or other openings when everything is together.

Try disassembling it and following youtube videos/pictorials to make sure your assembly follows theirs.

I would bet the motor isn't sitting in it's housing correctly causing the pre filter cover to not sit correctly.

I had similar issue with air leaking from around the filter housing - it was because a couple clips were broke on the motor retainer - Couple of screws in place of those clips worked well - if you have broken clips try some small self-tappers into the side of the housing - long enough to go through the housing and retainer and tightly hold it together and screw the screw - that fixed my DC07 - got another with broken tabs this weekend so when the new motor arrives ill be doing the screw method all over again...

thank you i change the motor to check it was not that,i put it back in the motor housing and the retainer is a brand new one no broken tabs, this is why i am scratching my head as i can put my hand on the retainer and suction is strong,it is when i put the pre motor filter cover on with or without a filter the suction goes i have tried putting black tap around the edges to seal but the suction is still low before it goes into the cyclone i will keep going at it hopefully i will solve it i will keep you posted thank you for the advise

Filter housing seal? have you tried putting your hand over the pipe coming from the filter - the one that sucks from the cyclone, remove the cyclone and test if theres suction there its probaly a blocked cyclone - if there isn't suction then I suspect a cracked chassis or seal since you have mentioned trying a different filter cover

I have tried this by removing the cyclone and checking suction at that point before it goes into it there was very little,it seems to be around the pre motor cover area upto the cyclone i did try a new rubber seal and it was the same hence my head scratching i am going to see if i have any cracks or gaps in the main body  as i can not thing of anything else it can be thank you for all the advise i will let you know if i find anything

So you have the motor housing and the motor with it's seals. Let's start off with the motor: Are the both on the motor nicely? The large bottom seal for the motor has to sit around the top rim of the base of the motor. The rubber lip covers the rim of the motor fan area.

Lubricate the perimeter of the base of the seal so it goes in nicely.

The motor should sit in properly. You can tell it ahs when you put the grey motor retainer on nicely with no force. It should just snap back into place. This motor retainer has a seal as well on one side. If not, there will be a loss of suction.

Put the motor housing cover front trim on and then on the vacuum and it should fit nicelyand flush everywhere with no gaps.  Screw it up with the 4 screws holding it

Place the pre motor filter in and test. Is ths suction good?

Edit: I'm also assuming your motor is perfectly fine with no damage etc, no funny noises or anything and with no dents in the fan area and the fan spins when you turn the spindle. Yes?

Is the machine standing up properly? Is the switchover valve working?

Ive done loads of DC07's and DC14's motors without any lubricant of some description to help the motor slide in - Everyone everywhere is always telling me im dead strong? mabey thats why - I don't think im strong, everyone I know thinks im over-strong
