Panasonic EcoMax Light MC-UL710 - Stripdown and Refurbishment!

I've had this a while. Infact I bought it the same day I got my old Xantia! Cost me £3, and I bought it en route to see George (Petsandvacuums!). So all the way from near Derby, then back to Oxfordshire!
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbdyoN07WCY
First out was the filter to be washed
It was quite blocked, so I cut the outer mesh off
And vacced it off
Next off was the hose to be washed. The hose is built into the wand, which clips into the top
That happened in August 2016... All the rest happened in May 2017... I got rid of the Xantia before it started to eat my wallet in March, so it outlived that (in my ownership anyway, the Xantia lives on with a serial garlic licker)
The wand sans hose
I gently tried to seperate it, but it wasn't having it, so I left it alone before I damaged anything!
The suction duct runs up the outside, and screws on
The white lint catcher pops out

The carry handle is held on with 2 screws
and comes off with a slight prise apart
The handle shell splits in 2
The switch cover pops off now (the handle holds it down)
Revealing the 2 switches
The switch covers themselves pop out
The button to release the wand lifts off with the switch cover removed
Moving down slightly, I popped the cover off and removed the post motor filter
And removed the powerhead

I think this vacuum should come with some other tools, which clip onto this, which mine did not have. So I removed the bracket anyway
And undoing the casing screws reveals the innards!
Annoyingly the cables are connecting the 2 halves still
The motor housing falls off at this point, as it's held on with the main casing screws
The motor itself is held into the middle part with 1 screw, which I removed here, but the motor wont come through the middle casing, and the wires aren't easily removeable
The mains cable connects to the inner wires with these crimps
So we will snip those
and remove the internal ducting
The switches are held in this cage, with the wires as shown

With the switches unplugged, and the red wire snipped, the motor comes fully off the middle part of the housing
The start of the suction channel lifts off the housing
These air ducts were a bit rubbish to be honest. Their flush fitting, secured with foam tape which had perished. So I took it all off
There was the start of a blockage here (this is nothing compared to what's coming!)
The mains flex is held in with this clamp
The post filter/diffuser lifts out
This is the lower half of the wand release clip and it's spring
The body-bin seal pulls out
And onto the motor!

Again, the housing is a flush fit secured with foam tape, so separates easily
Motor lifts out of the housing
Top rubber seal out
Sound muffler off the very familiar looking motor...
Looks very much like a DC24 motor (can anyone cross reference the numbers? I don't have a DC24 or 25 to hand!). Makes sense I suppose, this is a Panasonic cleaner!
Main cleaner apart, time for the cleaner head!
Mmmm, this has been off a few times
Take the base plate off and ....blimey
Brushroll out

Noting that 2 screws were missing I removed the top cover
Lifted the bumper off
Took the very clogged little foam post filter for the brushroll motor out
At least outside of the air path had escaped the smeg!
This is the brushroll PCB
And the brushroll motor (no manufacturer markings, but ruddy similar size to a DC24....)
PCB Detail
Back to the plastics, and the baseplate wheels pop out
Le belt

With the wires unplugged from the PCB, the suction duct lifts off the brushroll housing, and feck
The pivoting mechanism is a bit complicated (and the locking mechanism broken), but this lower piece comes off first. Large lower screw first, then the smaller upper ones
With the long plastic pivot peg removed, the 2 halves seperate
This spring hangs out here
The rear wheels were greasy as hell, but held on with a circlip each
And a washer behind each wheel
The wheel axle pulls out one side
This spring controls the locking pedal to lock the machine upright, and had popped out of its slot, so that's fixed that! (Well, it did when I re-assembled it)

Back to the pivot joint. The 2 silver vanity caps pop out, and reveal 2 screws either side, which once remove enable the assembly to be split
The power plug lifts off it's holder and the top part lifts off with the lower part unscrewed
The main suction channel then splits in half itself to reveal more smeg
The wiring loom can be removed now
One final split down on the angled part
And it all went into soak for 3 days and still proved to be a sod to scrub! But onto the bin for now!
It splits into 3 parts generally anyway, like this
The flap on the bottom of the bin pops off, and the rubber seal pulls out, revealing more crud
The green 'cyclone'/shroud twists apart

And the top splits down with the screws removed to get to the cones
I thought it used to have a coarse foam bit here, but this was just compacted but aerated dust!
Al the cyclone seals lift off
Seems a little blocked up in here
One final cyclone seal
Right up top sits the release valve
Which pops out
The handle for the bin pops off the pivots
As do the top bin clips

One last quick return to the brushroll as I forgot about it...
With the 2 screws undone, the cog end pulls out, bringing the axle with it. The other end is the bearing and end cap
Done, apart!
I'm going to take a break now and grab a coffee, then it's time for re-assembly, only 80 more images to go!

Right, I'm all tea and rolly'd up, let's crack on
And wash, dry and polish everything!
Brushroll
Dumb end cap, bearing and axle in
Belt cog screwed up and other bearing pushed in
These are greasable if anyone ever needs to, mine were fine
Other end cap on and the brushroll is done!
Cyclone now, and clips off
Clips on
Handle on

Release valve
together
and it snaps into the lid
Onto the cyclone now, and pop the main seal on
Clean cones
Pop the smaller inner seal in
And the outer one
And the lower outer one (there's alot of seals here)
All ready to go back together

Clip the middle part on
Pop the seal into the inside of the shroud
Then snap the top part on (which you could have done earlier, but I'm going by my image order...) and twist the shroud onto it's tabs
Bin flap now, seal back on
flap looks a bit cleaner
Clip the flap onto the bin
Pop the bin onto the cyclone
Put the lid on
and the cyclone is done!

Onto the floor head now, and it's all looking a bit cleaner, and my word it took alot of scrubbing even after a few days soaking!
The wiring loom fits through slightly confusingly
Wheels now
wheels on
Pop the spring in
Next, fit the 2 angled parts together. The white clip holds them together
Pop the cover on
Lower cover
Power plug fitted

And the top cover on (alot of covers too here)
Time to fit all this to the wheels. The spring sits like so and helps self return the brushroll housing to centre
Pop the centre pivot bar in and screw it on, then snap the locking pivot rings on
It didn't come 100% clean sadly
but mostly did
PCB and reset button fitted
Motor fitted
Then lower the pivot parts onto the base and plug it in
Like so
