Time to fit the release valve now

Lovely

The seal for the cyclone fitted to the air duct end

And after feeding the cables thorugh their relevant holes the PCB holder fits to the lower chassis

Here is where the issues started, the spinal cord didn't route properly which meant the PCB part didn't screw down fully, so eventually I just removed the spine and fiddled about with it for 10 minutes

Done!

Wired up

The brushroll loom had to be fed down now, it sits in this channel here

The inner PCB cover can be fitted now

Jumping somewhere else first though, the ball runner wheels are fitted to the outer shell

The inner hose is clipped in

The clear plastic cog part is refitted

The stabilizer bar is clipped in

Then the 2 washers and retaining cage are screwed onto the filter side of the assembly

The whole shebang is then fitted to the machine and screwed down

It took me a few minutes to work out how the part that fell out nearly as soon as I started then fitted, but it holds the brushroll loom tight against the housing and runs up and down the pivot point, it didn't go together too well either but held up well enough. The plug that sits at the bottom of the machine is a sod too, one wrong move and it unclips and pulls all the wires out

Post filter back plate is screwed down

And the machine stands up now!

Post filter and wheels fitted (their not balls!)

Brushroll housing fitted

Tool holder fitted

I fed the cable up the spine and clipped the lower cord hook on

Then wired up the switches

And fitted the cover

Top handle clipped on

Wand cap fitted to the handle cover

Then clipped onto the machine. Tools inserted (and yes I know the upholstery tool was the wrong way round!)

Hose fitted

Wand button and cord hook refitted

And with the wand fitted to the machine it is DONE!!!!

But, the big question, does it actually work? Has my first time having one of these a bit apart been for nothing?

How is the best way to clean the wand as I bought one of these and it's not clean and I've tried cleaning it with some warm water and soap but it's just not cutting it or in this case cleaning it :)

Hi, great tutorial, however im missing a wheel of mine and need to take 1 off an old carcass to replace it. How do they come off? im thinking they jus pull off, is this right dont want to damage the spare one.

That I don't know, as I left that alone! I've found the wheels on ball models tricky to get off, and broke a dc19 wheel assembly before trying! You'll probably find it easier and not much more expensive to get and change the whole wheel assembly!

Just stripped down DC40 would have struggled if not for this description!. Two points from my experience;1) the plastic “clip” that holds the cable to the rotating brush bar which the post refers to as difficult and always falling to bits I managed to rap a tiny piece of sellotape round which held it nicely in place and together without causing a problem later and 2) the brush bar wasn’t rotating which was the cause of the strip down but actually was just a burnt connection on the cleaning Head. A bit of emery on the pins sorted it.
