DC27 Animal
« on: July 30, 2017, 02:02:13 pm »
Hi,

Acquired a DC27 Animal, which a friend of mine found in the entry at the back of her house! It sounded good and I like a project. The usual :hose all covered in duct tape, filthy filters, wand cap missing all easily replaced by ManchesterVacs! Took it all apart cleaned it and put it back together with new parts. I changed the small belt on the clutch ( coz that's my limit ) it was misshapen. I would buy a new clutch before I tried changing the larger belt!! The finished dyson looks great, sounds great, BUT the brush doesn't spin. Yes the clutch is turned to brush and I have it tilted in hoovering position! What have I missed? Any advice would be gratefully received, otherwise I will have to treck over to Manchestervacs again from Liverpool! Not that I mind, they do a great Cappuccino!
Thanks as always for great advice

Kate

Remove the soleplate to make sure it's not catching on the clutch to brush belt.

If all seems ok, then remove the clutch cover to make sure the motor to clutch belt is on the motor spindle correctly.

Remember to recline the vacuum when trying as the clutch won't engage when the machine is upright

Thanks Mr Dyson, but I have done all that already. No joy I'm afraid!

Is the brushbar free?

The clutch might be knackered.

You have checked the clutch isn't turned off?

Yes the brush bar is free and moves easily when rotated by hand and both belts are intact. Could it need a new clutch?

It sounds like you have eliminated everything apart from the clutch.

If you're confident to do a clutch rebuild they're not too bad. Alternatively you could get a a replacement one from FleaBay. Or nip to Manchester and get a Cappuccino!

Ok great thanks! I'm not confident enough to do a clutch rebuild, but happy to remove and replace a new clutch.

Take you old one, Stu might give you a bit off for trade in  :underchair:

Well he was asking for old clutches at one point.

Is the clutch fitted correctly and in place firmly?  Sometimes the clutch knob scrapes against the plastic around it so the knob wont move freely to the carpet setting and the brush wont spin.
