Vax C86-PC-TE Performance 10 Total Home - Stripdown and Refurbishment!

Back in March, one of the girls from work came up to me, complaining that her Vax did not work. The usual happened, and I fixed it
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=EV82yWQfIEE
Fast Forward to August, and she came up to me again, and said she's sick of it, has bought a Henry and it's in the boot of her car if I wanted it
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=apoREPLF3cI
So let's do this!
I washed the hose and filters prior to this, so on stripdown night, we only have these bits to get on with
Turbo tool first
Which had never been used, so I quickly skipped it, and took the combination tool apart
Which had also barely been used! The dusting brush part is quite stiff
And the upholstery tool side is flipping horrible!
The hose end comes apart in a basic way
The wand was pretty filthy
Floortool next, which I actually really, really liked! Stuck down nicely to the floor, and felt like it was actually doing something

Pretty standard cheap affair though
Baseplate comes off
Hard floor brush insert lifts out
The brushes had one ot two hairs present
But it picked clean easily enough
The rubber squeegee slid out
The pedal is clipped in either end
and wriggles out of the main housing
Accessories out of the way, it's onto the main attraction

Take the cyclone off, we'll deal with that later
The HEPA Post Filter makes it look like cleaning it is easier than it probably would be if it was fully minging
It's not to bad, and a good vacuum off made it white again
Typical excellent Vax filtration here
The hose entry housing is held on with 2 screws
Under that sits a massive spacing/sealing rubber
Next, the rear wheels have to come off, which involves force, and horrible plastic cracking sounds. One of these did split slightly, but glued up fine upon re-assembly

The reason for all that fun* is that 2 screws sit behind them
The two buttons pop off, although this can be done after the top is removed I suppose
Remove the rest of the screws holding the two parts together and the top lifts off with a bit of wriggling
The cable guide just needs the cable slotting out of it
One nice touch is a metal guide roller built in, I'm amazed that A this exists and B it's not plastic...
The Power Switch sits underneath where the power button sits (funny that...)
Various cable routings
Cord reel lifts out

The motor exhaust cowling unscrews and lifts off the motor housing
The rubber gaskets lift out
Some foam sound deadening that definatly wont cause issues if left with badly maintained filters sits inside the top cover
Pull that out
Another layer sits below that inside the motor housing itself
The amazingly complicated looking PCB needs to be removed
Then some more screws see's the motor out of the chassis
Front wheel is held in with just one screw
To remove the wiring harness from the motor housing, the cables split within the white sleeve here
Using the same locking crimps Dyson are so fond of

The now free wiring pulls through the small hole in the housing
The inner motor housing unscrews and lifts off, revealing more dusty diffuser
Which itself lifts off, along with 2 rubber locating bungs
Cheap, chinese motor
I noticed the sticker was ontop of another sticker... which turned out to be identical
Fancase seal lifts out of the bottom chassis
The suction release valve is buried down here too, held in with a ribber o-ring
And with that done, it's onto the cyclone!

With the bottom flap opened, the inner part untwists a 1/4 turn and withdraws
Various seals are pulled off
The bottom flap is removed
This thin seal sits around the perimeter of the bin, sealing it to the bottom flap
The bin itself is locked into the top part of the housing with more 1/4 turn lugs
The carry handle is screwed in from underneath the top cover
The bin locking tab pops out of the underside of the handle

And the push button falls out of the other side
That's it, the machine is apart! Everything was washed, dried and polished!
And it can go back together! Starting with the release latch
Then the handle can be screwed back into the lid
Popped the bin on
Bin seal on
Inner separator seal fitted
And the square exit seal fitted

Then that was fitted to the main bin
Pop the bottom flap on and done!
Release valve fitted
Motor and associated dropped in
Top cover fitted
Refit the wiring
And drop the whole lot into the main chassis
Gasket refitted to the motor outer shell

Cord reel is dropped back in
Switch wired up
Cable guide fitted
And the top shell can be dropped on
Front wheel on
The foot pedal springs sit in place
And the pedals themselves are fitted
Rubber spacer/seal fits into it's hose entry place

And the cover is screwed back on
Fit the clean pre motor filter (washing machine did the trick!) and the post filter
And fit the bin in place
Pop the floor tool back together
Much better!
Pop the rubber sealing ring seen earlier onto the end of the hose this way round

Pop the suction release control cover back on
Then test it to make sure it works before putting the wheels back on!
And all being well, we are done!
But has it improved it at all?
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKMWUw3OZVE
Yes! It works very very well. I would be impressed, but being a Vax, a few months of use will see paid to that, but at least we tried!
It sold very quickly though, so that's that done!
Thanks for reading!
