Does a DC14 brush head have any bearings in the brush roller ?
« on: October 26, 2017, 01:13:41 pm »
First time I've worked on a DC14 , have it upside down to slide the brush roller out and found some small bearings and a couple of bits of metal

I assume they come from inside the brush roller assembly but wanted to check that they were not a red herring and were just trapped underneath it and were just vacuumed in at some point

Think I've answered my own question , there's bearing assemblies in both ends when the rod is removed I can see on YouTube . In that case does common sense dictate that I get a complete new OEM brush assembly rather than just the bearings

But it's now getting me wondering if the noise from what I thought was the motor was in fact knackered brush bearings . :whist11:

Oh well , it only cost me £1.27 off eBay in the first place so seeing I have the replacement Motor I'll replace both

Then sell it  ;)

Easier just to replace the brushroll, indeed.

Agree , now I've taken it to bits the bearings at one end completely failed and has scored the metal shaft over half its length , no wonder it was making a racket .

Might run the motor with the rest removed to see if the noise has gone out of interest seeing I'll have to wait for the new brush assembly to arrive

yep, lob a new brushroll in. If it's knackered enough to shred the bearing, it'll be well worn! What's the clutch like?

Sure Stuart will do you a happy price on a brushroll and refurbished clutch!

Clutch was fine in the end , brush roll went on and nice and quiet now.

Ended up virtually rebuilding it , needed a new motor , the brush roller and a mains lead as it was badly damaged and repaired with tape.

Gave it a thorough cleaning , new filters and it's working a treat.

Now to start on the 2 DC07's I picked up for £10 the pair at the weekend.
