Four years ago I has to buy a new vacuum as I could not carry the old one up the stairs. Hoover Senior was due to be retired off but husband refuses to use the Dyson lol
Today I would like to announce the retirement of Hoover (senior), pictured along side his new pal Dyson ( The Animal ). Hoover (senior), is now 40 and like our old brush, which has had 5 heads and 2 handles, Hoover (senior) has not been a stranger to the surgeons knife. He began his active life when I was 10, and was used 3 times a day at the height of his career when the young masters came along. Hoover (senior) was overheard to say, he was looking forward to retirement, and was considering opening a facebook page to track down his old pals. He also wishes Dyson, (The Animal) good luck.

Are you disposing of the Senior, Jill? We haven't got one of those in
our museum
.
He'd like his retirement among the other old Hoovers we have.

Lovely! Hoover Ranger though, not senior although under the hood it's identical! If you fancy getting your screwdrivers out Jill I'll have a refurb thread on the one our host will be adding to his museum!
Just need him to receive the vac first so I don't spoil the surprise!

Any suggestions for decent belts, pattern ones dont last and genuine hoover spares look like they've lain in a drawer for 20 years. Screwdriver is husband's job, incidentally my father-in-law was a hoover repair man at one time. Certainly in 1963 when husband was born

I hear you on the belts, I'm having the same issue! Sadly even genuine Hoover belts are made by the pattern people and branded as Hoover/Candy, and some of those are knocking on a decade old now. There are some proper NOS belts out there, but depending on how they have been stored they will be either crap or fine, and a bit of a gamble to find out!
Q-tex are probably the better spares supplier, their other brand stuff is OK.
Good to know you have Hoover blood in the family!

F-in-law was also a bit of a skip dipper, any older model hoover was rescued and revamped. Thanks for the tip for belts. We need more again! Incidently he would only buy genuine hoover, I think he called the rest bojack! Just Googled it and pinched it
The term Bojack refers to 'non genuine'. A pack of DVC brand bags "to fit" Hoover type A, are "bojack" bags. It also refers to a vacuum salesman (usually door to door) that sell more than one brand (an Electrolux salesman that also sells Kirby is a "bojacker"). "Bojacker" also refers to someone who buys trade in vacuums from all the door to door guys and then resells them through his own store, eBay, flea market, etc. It's kind of like the word "hoosier". To someone from Indiana, it's not a cut down. To people in Missouri, trailer park dwellers are called "hoosiers", meaning "trash that won't burn". "Bojack" is a negative word, meaning "not good enough for the real thing". You wouldn't want to sell "bojack" bags or be a "Bojacker" yourself. The term is always used in a negative connotation way.
