DC33 wand unit won't release from old hose
« on: December 10, 2017, 02:18:20 AM »
I've a problem which the usual FTFMing, YouTube video search, and general googling has failed to help - and so found this forum and would be grateful for any help offered   ;)

The model is my mum's DC33.  The hose developed a tear, and so I've bought replacement.  The fitting appears straightforward enough.

Except - the swivel catch on the upper end housing the wand seems to be stuck.  No matter how hard I press it hard I press it the wand unit won't release from the damaged old hose.  I've tried twisting the parts around in case that makes a difference but it doesn't seem to.   :'(

I'm also pressing the bottom part of the rocker button, not the top - in case someone wonders if I'm just being a total idiot lol...  :D

The part I mean is labelled as F on the schematic:

Any help much appreciated.

dont you have to refit the assembly to the vac then pull the wand up, i cant remember fully now...
If it was assembled it can be disassembled - if we can't repair it then it probably isn't worth repairing !

I don't think that's it - unless I'm misunderstanding somehow.

I'm trying to remove the whole wand assembly (part *C* in my post above) - from the whole hose assembly - part *D* - which I've bought a replacement for.

Swivel catch H is what you want to be pressing to release the hose from the wand.

Swivel catch F is to let the wand pipe drop back down inside the hose.

You're absolutely right - it was part *H* on the schematic that I was referring to.  That was what I was trying to press, and which won't push in.

Unfortunately that means it's still a problem, but at least I wasn't being a total muppet.  ;D

I followed this short video by the way.  Unlike many such instructional videos, it's remarkably concise (1 minute long) and clear.
