The top half was screwed up

ila_rendered

Cooling fan screwed on

ila_rendered

And a drop of lubrication was added to the top sleeve bearing

ila_rendered

Which was then fitted

ila_rendered

Underneath now

ila_rendered

The spacer washers, fan and spindle were fitted

ila_rendered

Then the outer seal

ila_rendered

Then the sheild

ila_rendered

The whole lot was then dropped onto the chassis

The various wirings were wired up/pushed towards where they needed to go

ila_rendered

Now, it was time for some improvement, so I snipped the spinal cable from my spares DC07 and bought it in, then precision measured* the precise length I needed and cut that to size

ila_rendered

Using the inner cores from that, and some crimps procured especially for this job as I didn't have any, I replaced the supressor with wires, keeping as much of the original cables as possible incase Stuart fancies re-instating it one day and playing russian routlette

ila_rendered

It vaguely follows the original path

ila_rendered

I even put the now bypassed supressor back in, lest it should add to its value one day

ila_rendered

Improvements over, time to pop the front wheels back in

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

Then, time for the handle bail, bag holder, metal bar and a hammer, and a nice layer of grease everywhere

ila_rendered

Handle release pedal greased up and fitted (the rollers it rides on were lubricated too)

Then the pivot brackets fitted as it holds it all down

ila_rendered

Wire holder circlipped into place next

ila_rendered

Then the height pedal

ila_rendered

The one wheel was fitted to the rear axle

ila_rendered

Then it was all slid into place and completed

ila_rendered

Tool plate now

ila_rendered

The spring and bar were fitted to the plastic firewall, with a squirt of lithium at all possible times

ila_rendered

Then it was screwed down

ila_rendered

The mains switch was fitted

Spring for the rear wheels was fitted

ila_rendered

One of the metal screw threads decided to fall off at this stage, so here's what it looks like!

ila_rendered

A slight tweak with some pliers had it gripped on once more

ila_rendered

The back plate for the 2 speed switch was fitted now

ila_rendered

Then  the switch itself

ila_rendered

Then both covers. I also re-positioned and re-glued the ratings plate so it wasn't hanging off so much

ila_rendered

It now stands up correctly

ila_rendered

Time to fit the baseplate seal to the baseplate

ila_rendered

Drop of glue here and there will hold it enough, it'll be clamped between plate and machine for ever more anyway

I then had another brilliant idea, and grabbed the 900 miles of foam strip left over from the Hoover Sensotronic, and cut a little piece off

ila_rendered

To replace what I imagine was a similar sealing piece here for the plastic flap

ila_rendered

Whilst that stuck, I grabbed the cable

ila_rendered

As I'd noticed, whilst cleaning, that the neutral inner core was exposed, so had to chop the lovely original crimps off

ila_rendered

I then, after ruining the whole machine, built the wiring block back up

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

Done!

I then got my box of cool senior stuff Dilys sent me ages ago fro my Hoover Senior 652C, and found a belt

ila_rendered

Even from a genuine packet, it's a pattern part belt!

ila_rendered

Still, does the job

ila_rendered

Baseplate on

ila_rendered

I also had a spare lamp

ila_rendered

But had to stop, as I'm not qualified in electronics... (Microsoft VBA and ISTQB Foundation qualified, but that's no help here)

ila_rendered

However, I stuck 2 fingers up to the man, and fitted the bulb

ila_rendered

With that done, the upper hood can go on

ila_rendered

And we can start to finish off. The vintage cardboard was still needed, so back on it goes!

And with some precise tweaking, got the handle bolt to hold the handle rock solid

ila_rendered

A slight tangent here to the mains plug. And whilst doing all this, I realised that the plug was possibly original... So polished the pins up with the rest of the metalwork

re-wired more tidily than it was before

ila_rendered

Much better!

ila_rendered

And with that done, and the top handle attached, it's finished!

But did it work?

Yep!

So it was time for a few layers of wax

So are we done now? Well no! You see,  Mr Stuart has said to me before that he would love a toolkit with one of these old wrecks one day. And I just so happened to know someone selling some. So, in early september, I unboxed all of this!

ila_rendered

Not all of it was mine, 1 senior toolkit and a dustette was for someone else who happens to live very near me, so I saved him some postage, but I ended up with 3 toolkits, two for my own machines, and one for Mr Stuart!

ila_rendered

I gave him the boxed one, as it's probably easier for him to store

ila_rendered

it had a floor and wall brush

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

A Crevice tool

Dusting Brush

ila_rendered

2 wands

ila_rendered

and a hose and adapter

ila_rendered

Couldn't quite let it go out the door like that though, so I spent many hours cleaning the hose up

ila_rendered

Until eventually I had a toolkit fit for display

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

With some tape, the box stayed together too

ila_rendered

And boy, do they complete the machine!

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

So there we go, NOW we are finished! Time for an after video

Hopefully Stu can post some pictures up of it in it's new home, I think some might be up in the museum thread actually.

Still, onto the next terrible vacuum he has sent me for a wipe over!

Thanks for reading, good night!

Its an epic job, I had a go around the floor with it and it runs like a dream!

Many have admired it in the corner of our shop where it now resides.  :icon_nod:

Thanks. It helped that it was a good one to start with! It (and the 652 before it) are the ultimate wafty vacuum. Over-engineered, low stressed motor. Should be good for another 100 years now, might need a bag or belt before then though

Just wondering.
Why did you bypass the supressor? what exactly does that so?
