DYson V6 Power Problem from Body Contacts?
« on: December 14, 2017, 04:53:24 pm »
Hi All, I have a V6 Hand Held in - Dyson sent out a replacement body to get over the problem of no power to Brush Head but both bodies have the same problem.

With no trigger pulled I am getting 1.8v at the contacts on the body dropping eventually to zero, with the trigger pulled I get a short circuit ! Does anybody have any ideas?

You are testing at the body outputs and not at the outputs at the front of the bin?

And do we know the battery is perfect?

There was no problem with the contacts from the body to the front of the Bin, Im testing the Body Contacts.

This is the first time I have seen this problem - looks like there is no way of getting into the Body either as its probably just a component gone which would cost pennies no doubt :(
I was reading through the forum last night and you say that you dont repair these machines, I can see why now :(

The battery was good, customer didnt leave me a charger so waiting for them to bring it in..

The confusing thing is, a new body has the same problem as the old? New stuff is almost never faulty.

Just had a chat with the customer.

The New Body did work for a while, I think I have found whats caused the bodies to fail - The Brush spindle was almost seized (Hair Packed around the Bearing) - Im thinking this has caused a component inside the body to fail.

As I have 2x Bodies (the other works well on its own with no attachments so all is not lost) I have permission to take One of the Bodies apart to see if I can find whats failing so hopefully soon I wil be able to contribute something to this forum.

I know its not going to be pretty but here goes...

Looking forward to that! I dont think anyone has done that here yet.

The heads are well known for clogging up as you describe. Often it causes the head to fail but I haven't seen yet what you describe with the bodies.

Then again, the customer's version of "a while" might have been a year or two.  ;D

I've taken a couple of 31s apart, they looked like the dog had been at it.

Just a thought, has the plastic around the contacts melted? had this on an old vax handheld. brush bar was stuck and this had caused contacts to heat up, melt the plastic and the contacts moved.

Hi All, I keep my Workshop at a constant 26c (Air Conditioner) so that the Plastic is maleable - I can usually get everything apart withough breaking anything

I have got the Motor out without any major damage but I cannot see any blown components on the board - I think its glued in place so no reasonable way of getting this apart any further :(
