DC41 (Erp) PCB Issue? (No Power to Head).
« on: January 03, 2018, 04:12:22 pm »
Hi All,

As you all know usually the 'No Power to Head' issue is usually a broken wire in the Ball but not this time - I have power to the PCB but nothing coming out :(

Is there a specific component on this board which fails or do I need to find a new board?

I found that the Switch for the Head was not working so replaced it - still no joy.. i'm hoping that will give someone a clue as to the possible problem.

Any advice appreciated.

If you have AC power going into the PCB but no DC coming out of it, then yes its a board.

We tend to swap the board rather than repair them, Ryevac here is your chap for repair info. He is very clued up on that sort of stuff.  :icon_nod:

I'm afraid to say i still haven't had one on the bench with this bad pcb.
Seen pictures of the pcb in previous posts but i need one in a vac faulty before i have a go at one.

As Stu says Nik, if you definately have a supply to the pcb but nothing coming out then pcb at fault.

Strange co-incidence that the switch was faulty too ?

If you have knowledge of electronics and components then you can cold check for o/c resistors, transistors or capacitors etc.

I'm afraid to say that Electronics are not my thing - Bad Caps is about as far as I am at the moment (only because the tops visually blow- everything looks good on this board.)
I will probably change the board.

Im quite happy to send you this Board My Ryevac so you can test it and let me know what the problem is so I can fix them in future.

This is the 2nd One in I have had like this and I do get frustrated if I cant fix it..

Visually I can see no problems :(

Would be interested in having a closer look at this Nik.
Is it possible also to photograph the board in situ with j4 and the other white connector connected up please. I am wondering if there is an axis switch that connects to these also.
thanks
I will message you my address.

I have a DC50 board here and I was going to change components over to see if it works but im too busy and bought a replacement, but would love to learn how to repair the boards.

I will send this board to you hopefully tomorrow :)

You only get output from PCB to head when machine is reclined? If still no out put from pcb check reset switch and the switch on side of ball that engages the head motor, although they very rarely go faulty. From experience on the 41 If the reset switch has failed it’s normally (not always) due to a faulty PCB. Which can also damage the motor in the head!

"output from PCB to head when machine is reclined?" via the two red thinner cables.
yes that should be the norm.

I still haven't managed to get back to this pcb job, however components have arrived.

As well as my own work, i am covering for my mate (who's just had a triple heart bypass) on his patch - not on the vac side, but the tv engineering side.
